That is beautiful. A work of art, and good on you for using reclaimed wood. How's it surf, it looks like once it gets going it will fly down the line. The tail and the fin way back has me wondering how does it turn in knee to stomach hi. It looks like it's made for bigger surf but without seeing the rocker it's hard to tell.

 

Its a very fat board, oh i mean it has lot of volume so it catches em early and with the tail and deep fin it can hold a line on a steeper face ,this board is about 10 years old

 

I'd do twin keels. I rode a wooden mini sims once. Maybe a bit bigger than this board. Had twin keels and it was fun. Didn't have it in big surf or anything but up to waist high it was fine

 

Gotta have some V for da twin keels. Does it have the V in the back? If not it will stall and not go rail to rail. I think a trailer fin and a slight V from the front of the fins out to the back, and a flux capacitor under the hood, it should make a few sections.

 

Well the keel thing is pretty much the correct retro lookfor the Simmons style boards ,but pretty much all the Simmons twins were all 8 ft plus anyway and with their twin keels didnt have a v in the tail it had a concave in tail actually built up with timber like a hydro plane style hull which he used in pointbreak surf not small shifty beachbreaks so if you are doing a retro board it would still be correct, but for actual riding pleasure yes do the quads

 

5'2" X 21 1/4" X 2 3/8" stringerless EPS epoxy. Black Cat Dharma. still needs to be sanded out. Featherlight. 1 layer 4 oz s cloth on the bottom, 1 layer 4 oz s cloth on the deck + a deck patch.

I have some 2 oz cloth ive been hoarding for a new small wave machine
I used some on a old 1970s board and it is really lite but dings pretty easy

I'm very curious how it holds up. I have always wanted to build a super light board but I was afraid that all my hard work would go away on one awkward fall.

What's the tail design called- a double hex nut mini swallow? It looks like it gives you lots of lift, even when doing turns. Nice boart!

thanks...i have always had the experience that you can go with lighter glassing with EPS/epoxy construction. Its very very light, but probably will hold up in small waves, and not being careless with it.
