Whats up guys, first post. iv'e been surfing 20 years so i guess its time to get a foot pad, huh? I purchased the Dakine Kalani Rob white pad. What should I expect ?
Dakine pads are awesome, and the Kalani Rob model is actually my favorite one... I go with black though, because white will get really really dirty if you like to wax your pad.
i always wax my pads. but dakines are defiently the best i have ever had. and i usually go through alot a year. but you will dwfiently get alot of traction.
Please, call it a traction pad.Calling it a foot pad makes it sound like theres something wrong with your feet.Goodluck on your new investment.
prob. not necessary, but i like to think it helps.... most of the pro's wax their trac-pads if you watch them getting ready b4 heats, and i think they generally have a good idea of what helps them stick to their boards
ya.. i have to go with traction pad, they both make sense, but footpad does sound weird. Ive never had dakine, always creatures and i like them,(one dane reynolds kommunity) and i have looked at the kalani robb pad and it did look sick. I want to find a kommunity kelly slater pad, that one looks pretty nice. i never wax my pads when i first get them, i always think it looks like crap, but then after my first sesh with it, i wax it up!
lol..okay guys forgive me for the semantics error...not a big deal what it sounds like we all know what it means. I looked at the Kommunity traction pads website and I think they look great, but its all made of the same material so its all design/graphics shopping at that point. The slater model although, has NO arch. Which raises an interesting question, especially since I have no clue about the differences of any Traction Pad- which do you prefer? Arch or No Arch?
I like a pretty good arch on my regular shortboards, because when i take off on a really deep wave, i tend to move pretty far forward on my board to get up lots of speed. Then i move my foot back onto the pad once i want to stall or cutback or turn or whatever it is i am doing. The arch makes it really easy to tell that ive moved my foot far back enough to do a critical turn. That being said... i generally want a flatter arch on my fish-shapes, cause they are so much shorter there isn't really much space to move the feet around anyway, and the arch is just annoying for me in that situation.
i actually like no arch, its weird at fisrt but i like how it super easy to run your foot down to the end of it for snaps etc..... But since i can only find flat archs online, i have to buy arched ones :/ .. but whatever, th e arch is usefuly like he said on the post above this
