I got boards everywhere too i get nothin but harassment about em i have some racks i built but their out in garage so i have about a dozen out there and 9 in my living room and my gf never ceases to complain I think she should just bite the bullet cuz im gettin ready to build me a new one and it might send her over the edge when i want to keep it in living room too
i try to keep it simple I like thicker stringers and prefer multiple stringers especially on a longboard the additional weight i dont consider an issue for the added strength Plus its a great look Currently my wax rash is reaching critical mass my ribs are all fawked up , the jellyfish stings are killin me its been fun
Sent my red mini mal back to its maker for a deck patch and some love - and insides of my knees are ridiculous rashes up too lol but Bruh’ I’d have my boards in my living room too but I’d be divorced - the compromise is my board town downstairs ... of course she came and visited the other night and saw the Rawson. It was a “repair job” for a buddy I was working on. She was so proud.
Was doing some dry work on the Rawson tonight and it came like tying a pair of shoes... didn’t even have to think about it - hit those spots every time. I’m pumped for some time with it and the Roberts That’s gonna be here TOMORROW !!
It’s in my dirty paws!!!! What a sexy beast and the attention to detail is awesome. I cannot wait to put fins on this and go for a rip!!
It’s 2” longer, 1” wider and 1/2” thicker than the Rawson but it’s got the width more rearward and the rails from center back are hard and cupped into twin concaves in the tail. It’s flat from nose to about halfway then goes single concave to the double and I’m liking the nose rocker but minimal tail rocker so I can get going quicker. I can already see when I’ll try and surf these boards as the Rawson is feather lite so that’s a good walls low wind day and the Roberts isn’t heavy but noticeably heavier than Rawson sonthats my heavy offshore wind day bort. Any suggestions on how I fin it? Tri or quad. I’m thinking quad only because I need all the help I can get to keep stable and I’m looking to easy carve and ride - no cutbacks or badazz lip turns like others here.
Go quad when you need / want the extra speed, typically slower / mushy waves. Go thruster when you have better quality, faster surf to give you better hold on the steeper more critical waves. I have found the quad is actually more loose and actually less forgiving. Maybe others feel the opposite, just going on what I have learned about my boarts recently by doing some fin experimenting in various conditions.
That’s why I asked Bud. I was under the assumption it was better for hold and I had already found the speed while experimenting with my mini mal. I’ll actually try my fins off my RB Cougar. Their Futures and the correct size for me.
Should have put "Barry Cuda" under the lam. That would have fuxed everyone up haha Looks sick, charge it mother fucker
Yup. Just set it up with leash, pad and fins, waxed too... then found out I’m unable to surf tonight hahaha. Coursenits cause I’m hangin with my bestie surf bud Brooke and she’s helping me change over wax from warm water to cool so I’m still stoked
Now THAT would have been hella funny!!! I’d didn’t expect anything special under lam but dims and signature... I guess some kind words and a thirty pack and no pressure calls made an impact!
Alright man, get ready. Here's my advice. 1) As far as fins. I prefer a thruster basically always except for on my mini. Feels right on that board. All others i hate it. Being as iv surfed with you, i get the feeling you won't like a quad in steeper waves. Don't know why. Just a instinct. Id go thruster, then on a mushy day try quad... then go from there. 2) did it come with fins? If not i got a stock pile of the "stock" futures i can send your way. The medium's though. For now id suggest you go with a stiff fin. Go on the future's website. They got this numbers system that makes finding the fin your looking for easy. Then go on surfboardwarehouse and try and scoop them cheap. Or any site. As long as you get them cheap. Fins are dumb expensive. 3) Remember when you were down here we were talking about the board you were on not fitting the smaller/steeper wave? Ride this board in those type of conditions. Get used to that angled take off. Rawson on big clean days with light wind. Roberts of its heavier wind. And on smaller days that have punch (you want to get used to the SB. Saving it for big days only and you'll feel unaquainted). Stoked for you man. Can't wait for the ride report
Game changer for me. Awesome advice and guidance BMon! As usual, spot on. I have also noticed the thruster/quad thing on videos and your right - seems the quads if ever are only on smaller mushy days but the dudes riding steep or tube are all thrusters. So set it up that way, large forward and center fins, in the stiffest rating. What I was using on my big bort down Rockpile. I will check out that info though because I want a specific set for the board but not into paying $140 for every set...I’m already out a shi-ton of $$ between the two that I didnt have... of course it’s worth it though haha And funny you said it: I’m going to be forcing myself to pack only these two borts going forward unless it’s only LB waves - because your right; I’ve got to get used to these as much as my LBs and keep them regular. It’s setting up to be like today in variations for the next 10 days so I’ll have my pick of stuff to try: inside steep quick, or middle/outside steep and slower with sections. Gonna dona sunrise sesh tomorrow even though rides not greatest, then maybe Thursday afternoon because tide is good, wind is good and they’ll be chest/head. I’ll be back with ride report!
