I respectfully disagree with your thoughts on "That close to shore area has always been peoples area" You forgot that we are just visitors in the ocean as surfers or any other recreational activity. The ocean belongs to no one.
Statistically, culling will not reduce incidents. Studies done in Hawaii and Australia have shown no statistical relationship between nets and drumlines... which both catch and kill sharks (essentially culling)... and attacks. I don't understand why that's true, but it is.
#nutso de facto... If we killed every single seal in the universe, the GW problem would go away, noT.
I’m not all for a cull. But if they allowed hunting (close to shore only) maybe they’d learn to stay further offshore. They say that they are hunting close to shore due to the seals being on shore. That means it’s a learn d behavior. If there was a danger to the sharks close to shore maybe that’d stop hunting there. Don’t know if that would help but I do know that if they have an increase in food near shore with NO enemies it will only get worse.
It’s feeding behaviors that if we could alter or change, would be effective but are there other ways of prevention being used elsewhere to protect people and beaches that’s works? I’d be curious to see if these things start to be discussed before culling. Would hope so. And spot on with the close to shore hunting comment - that shizz has thrown Skomal andnthe other woods hole people a big curveball. Shows the sharks are quick to adapt, even if it goes against their instincts. Crazy stuff.
It's all about balance. Many plant and animal species populations are controlled. Example - fertilizer and weed killer. I would bet most folks on here control the weed population (eg dandelions) in their yard via fertilizer or pulling them out. Why wouldn't that work for some animals? It does. Deer populations are controlled through managed hunting. Many liberal counties don't want the poor little deer hurt but then the population explodes and it becomes an issue when daddy's little girl wrecks the Benz three times via deer strikes. Then they call in the necks to come in and shoot em (at night so they don't have to witness the horror). There are answers. By the way, the human virus is here to stay so you can't just ignore it!
Personally I'd rather see the Human Race Culled. Get rid of seat belt laws, Helmet laws, Drug Prohibition. Bring back death penalty and use it!
From this thread: https://www.swellinfo.com/forum/threads/kelly-slaughter.31230/#post-445711 Seriously I only expect more of this to happen. Anyone who says humans < wild animals, I think you should rethink that perspective.
Classic action clip from shartsniffer. I wonder if anyone has the chucka-boo-boo latex dummy in the barn rape dog clip? Impossible to make this stuff up, and found only on The SI Fourumme folks.
Don't they have shark nets in Durban South Afrikkkkaaaa? I'm too lazy to do the research if it really works or if they still use it, but if I was a shark net rep, I'd be calling the municipalities of Cape Cod, offering my sincere condolences, and a proposal to adopt with a Cayman Island slush fund for a yes vote on the next city council meeting. Just sayin Can't hurt to give it a shot. Put up the net, and when seals get caught, relocate them to Greenland, or Iceland, or some other land far far away.
seal dog food would probs be better that that chinese grain based crap...not that I use that but nah mean?
I wonder if you could jerk seal? It could become a cottage industry and revive the cape economy. Cured in sea salt, could be yummy.
