Not Garland replacing Scalia particularly. My issue is more with both parties putting politics ahead of keeping our government functioning properly.

Legislation getting passed has come to a grinding halt and presidents are relying on Executive Orders more because of it. Not a good thing imo. This kind of politicizing of our judicial courts is going to hurt us in the long run. Just creating another broken system in our government.

Also, I can see the R's going crazy if my Ginsburg scenario were to actually play out. I think the dems would most certainly try and stall him out until 2020 no matter how small it made them look.

Side note: I also think that there should never be a lifetime term given to any position in government. You can do 18 year terms limits so there would be a new judge nominated every 2 years (read a paper in college regarding this and it made the most sense to me).

 

I think it is beyond politics...I mean it is more of a cultural dynamic...progressive movements, migration away from Constitution, social acceptance issues (abortion/gay marriage etc), 2nd amendment...list goes on. The court drives much of how we as a society evolve socially. I think changing judges frequently would exacerbate the issues...can you imagine doing it in tandem with congressional elections. Total shitshow IMO.

 

I see your point but would argue having a seat sit empty for long periods of time because of party politics is going to be a shitshow too but it is what it is.

The tax return thing is such a waste of energy.

What I mean is, these people, DJT, HRC, billy the r*pist, Bloomberg, pick 'em, are ALL mega-wealthy. They exist in another dimension of financial reality that us common taxpayin' folk rarely if ever have sniffed.

They didn't get all that money by being upstanding princelings & princes, duty-bound to the civil society.

Behind every great fortune is a crime. And that goes for every one of those folks - - so who really gives a farkus what they have on their tax returns?

 

When it comes to our President, I do. In Trumps own words so to speak, "we have tax and financial laws or we don't."

Trying to offer a non-partisan take on the Kavanaugh hearings - if we are seeking Jesus (used because he was supposedly the only sin free being to ever walk the earth, not necessarily a reference to a specific religion being better, etc) to sit on the supreme court, the position will be vacant until the end of the world.
