Fair enough, decently-stated & thoughtful aspects. I'm ok with Trump blarking at the ballplayers. Neither here nor there, just ok with it - - tempest in a teapot imho.
Trump's personality doesn't bother me, I have no idea why, and yes I get that he drives some folks (Kyle, others) into batshiiiiite krazy mode with his everything-bagel-personality. Govt interference, as it were, in the private sector is nothing new - - Trump's just taking it into new aspects.
Yeah I knew this was coming. But guess what? He became President and is now going after China and bringing back manufacturers to the US.
I think people are troubled because Trump's behaviors is "un-presidential" to them. Thus people need to separate that this president tweets (or I like Yank's "blarks") his "opinions" about matters that previous presidents may not have involved themselves in. These are often his "opinions" and not executive orders or mandates, thus not government involvement. So when he suggests to NFL owners to fire certain players, it appears that this is what he would do if he were an owner, not as an overreaching gov't entity. Do we expect much different than what was portrayed in his reality TV show (The Apprentice -- "Your Fired!")? The challenge for people is distinguishing when he is speaking (or "blarking") as Donald Trump from when he is speaking as POTUS and the executive branch's intention for implementing policy. And note, I am not justifying or endorsing any of this, but attempting to provide "coping mechanism" for those who daily are troubled when their expectations are not met. It has been said many times in this thread, that many are unable to separate "personality" from "policy". I think people are better served by a list of what he has had implemented like someone (Yank?) posted a few pages back and the pros/cons for each item rather than dissecting the multitude of his tweets, blarks, and other knee jerk statements. I suppose this is a huge ask for some.
Pretty much how I feel on the kneeling issue. It’s his opinion. Some people are going to disagree with ‘all’ of his policies and opinions. He can’t force them to stand...
I will add, I think the kneeling is hurting the NFL a lot. There are millions of fans who are patriots first. They ain’t having it and will tune out. High percentage of those are in Trump’s base...
Sorry, I haven’t had a chance to respond to a couple of youse guys on the kneeling matter. Been real busy today. Some good opinions by Yankee, JayD, CapecodCdog, and a couple others about cover it for me. I just wish all of my fellow Americans loved our Country as I do. Impossible to ask or expect but I remember a time when most people were proud to be an American, and didn’t apologize for that and didn’t feel any shame about it. There is nothing wrong with being patriotic, embrace it. It doesn’t mean you gotta wear a Captain America costume everywhere you go, but be proud of where you come from. And if you aren’t from here, then be grateful you are here at all.
There hasn't been any kneeling this season so they have no reason to tune out anymore, NFL snuffed it out. For me it's the rule changes. The game is getting softer, not sure what a catch, not sure what a legal tackle is, etc etc. Can't make something safe that is inherently violent, just not possible.
Actually some have knelt. Miami had a couple dudes. Some of the networks just decided to not televise the anthem to remove the visuals. But it’s still going on to some degree. NFL snuffed nothing out.
2 players knelt this past week, both of whom no one has ever heard of give me a break there always going to be zealots out there, not that I have a problem with the kneeling anyways.
