If Trump was shrewd (and he is pretty shrewd on his short game, the long game jury still out), he'd delay the nomination,or pull it,and appoint a very conservative woman jurist. He would quell the November backlash. He is stubborn, and he won't and will energize the opposition.

That is why they are trying to wrap this up quick before the mid terms. It's simple math.

The long term gain the right wing gets from appointing an openly hostile judge will be lost in the illegitimacy of the 3rd branch. Putin is joyful at our black eye.
