Let’s face it guys (and like 2 girls), it’s getting chilly out there and keeping your most values assets warm is rapidly becoming a numero uno prioritah.
There’s the typical rip/slice in the trusty 4/3 that’s been on the bench since late April, that there seems just not enough time to get around to fixing, but there’s also the issue of water finding its way up your submerged extremities irregardless of gear condition. This begs the obvious question - do y’all tuck your suite into boots? What am I doing wrong?

    Warmth preservation tip hotline tread.
Serious replies only please. Looking only for the BEST ways to stay warm.
    Thanx

    Dear tow..e..lle
I believe the answer to this age old question is more of a geographic location.
Besides the fact you were less than diligent in tending to your most basic life serving suite in which you neglected your suite like an old girlfriend , I believe this problem could be solved 2 ways.

1 move to a much warmer and more suites climate because no one should ever have to were more than a 3/2.

2 take a piece of an old suite and place it on the inside of the torn seem using an adhesive to see the patch and for wayne sake tuck always tuck!

I’ve heard fat girls keep you warm too.

    Seriously, though, tuck.

Not too much of an issue here... I just make sure I buy the right size suite. Which for me is a "tall" size. If I buy the normal Large or whatever, the legs are too short and I get more leg flushes... sometimes having to wrestle with my boots/leg opening trying to sit on my board in the lineup, which is kinda sucky.

So for me, the right fit means no tucky... no sucky.

I'll also add learning propre suite repair is almost as important at learning propre ding repair. Both are must-have skills.

5D39AF05-7172-4A46-8F3D-99CD5638895F.jpeg Fill the tear from end to end but dont go crazy, just enough to fill the tear. Use painters tape or other that will stick to suit for at least 20-30 minutes and slightly pinch closed the area of repair - justenough so that a little of it pushes out of repair. Wipe excess away with finger tip and then let the repair sit for a few hours. It works. I’ve repaired flex areas on booties and gloves and it holds awesome - cause it’s basically black rubber glue. Cheap too. Get a small tube of it for $6. That can is for my work sized things.
And LB is SPOT ON again... take the time to try on a few suits before you “get close enough” cause things stretch, loose their fit over time and then your cankle man and balloon calf’s. I ended up being an XXL regular. Looked like a bearskin rug hanging on the rack and then I tried it on. Fit is everything because if theirs no space to hold water, you won’t have the issue and suit will be functioning correctly.

Do people actually tuck the suit into boots and gloves? Suit always goes over for me. I put gloves over suit once... gloves got ripped right off after taking a HH set on the head.

It's been said before, but brand plays a big role in fit. Ripcurl fits my body perfect and i have no issues. If your having trouble with proper fit, try on diffrent brands.

Some suits you need to tuck into booties - seams open up down low if their not double tabbed inside. Manufacturer based. Gloves usually no, and that’s because their in the water a lot less - at least for me. My BodyGlove 4/3 works awesome without any tuckies, but my Rip Curl needed to be tucked or I flooded eveytime. Arms and legs. I think that was fit too.
Only issue is if suits tucked into booties, it doesn’t let any water drain out at ankles that may get inside during days when your getting banged around - then your trying to surf with giant bags of water strapped to your calves... not good.

Hey ur moms a kook, Kale

Solid advise everyone else, i think I’m gonna try my hand at this patching idea. Hope it works. Another problem with tucking my suite is, like a lot of you probably have encountered - evacuating certain bodily fluids. Like.. if I tuck it into boots.. does it go into my boots? how do I drain the boots mid-session? I don’t particularly enjoy the thought of sitting in a puddle of poop either.. sometimes it’s just pee tho. And sometimes it even warms me up! But not for too long, and it’s back to icy nuts. Any advise?

    I'm still enjoying VB's 78 degree water...

I tuck boots and gloves under the cuffs. I believe there was a similar discussion on this last winter.

    For neoprene repairs, I use:

However, I do not voluntarily evacuate bladder or bowels into suit. In my experience, most basic bodily excretion management issues are addressed during potty training.

Take care of your gear, and it will take care of you.

i can tell u from personal experience towlie, that neoprene glue stuff works.i probably have the cheapest 4/3 on the market, that I bought probably 8 years ago.things a backzip, nothing special, paid like a buck fiddy for it,hyperflex.one day I got out the water and noticed a tear at the kneepad part to the leg.while I was in the water I didn't even notice to be honest.this was like early November a few years back.

I went home, went to the surfshop bought a $10 thing of glue, put some on,and surfed in that 4/3 til the end of December.i remember I surfed on new years that year in the 4/3,along with my boots and gloves.
wetsuites are good these days,i got a 6/5/4 I can go out after a blizzard when its 8 degrees out and the waters like 34 or something.not cold at all.its actually colder standing on the beach.

if u never surfed like actual winter, just make sure ur prepared cause aint nobody comin out to save u if u get in trouble.its a very peaceful time, beaches being desolate wastelands lol

Yesterday AM, water was 78, air 73, and already there were those wearing full suits. I don't get it.
