Haha, everyone has their addictions, mine just happens to be handshaped surf boards. And as I’ve said before I truly appreciate local trades and craftsmanship. Someone put themselves into it and that makes it special. Joke is I’m a broke joke most days - but it’s usually for my family or surfing so I’m a HAPPY broke Joke.

Hahaha day after i bought the board me and wife are talking. It was about furniture she wanted. I was like we just got married, let's save some money up first. She just gave me the look and says "you just bought a 9th surfboard without even mulling it over for more than 24hrs". Touche.

I now have some new furniture being delivered

Hahahahaaaaaaa!!!! And NOW your TRULY married! Yeeewwwww

My wife thinks I’ve got a small ding repair side business going cause every time she goes downstairs there’s a new bort. I blew it the other night when she came down to hang out and workout with me and I had the Roberts on deck - getting all excited about how my footwork is getting solid and I can’t wait to learn the board in real surf...
    duhhhhhh

I'm telling Becker. He might cry. But you know, enjoy the board and everything.

Just got back from the maiden voyage. I dig it! Very diffrent from all my other boards. I love my other boards, they work great. They just lack that higher performance... which is how i wanted them so it's all good. The 5'8 tends to "stick" more instead of pivot. Great for more drawn out turns. So that's what I'm comparing the new board to.

It paddles good. I usually like extra volume but decided to drop 2 liters on this board. Didn't want to go bare minimum though. I think i nailed that. It paddles good but can definitely tell its lacking the extra volume, which considering its intended purpose is spot on.

Size wise it's perfect as well. When i pop up my foot is right where i want it. The more traditional pointy nose helps there i think. With the fuller nose on the 5'8 I'd sometimes inch forward while paddling taking my back foot just off of where i want it.

The waves were kinda wierd and not at the same time. I didn't get to really put it through its paces. But i got a good feel for it. This thing pivots like crazy. I took off on a few waves that closed out. While avoiding the closeout i noticed the thing pivoted like crazy. So then i just went up and hit the closeout. It just squirts straight up. The 5'8 wouldn't do that. Id have to draw out a bottom turn to get up there or hit it at more of a horizontal angle. On the 5'7 I'd see a closeout, feel like id be late getting up there if i ws on the 5'8, but just got on the tail and boom straight up it goes.

I did notice if my feet weren't where i wanted, the board just bogs. But that's user error. It's fast down the line. Definitely took off on steeper waves more easily. With the 5'8 the low rocker didn't hinder me on steep drops if my positioning was good. I felt i could go on waves that id normally back out of though. So that's good. It's light which i could really feel.

I got one really good left that was a top carve straight into an off the lip straight up into the closeout section. Felt i could pull off consecutive turns more quickly.

Would like to get it out in some better shaped waves but it was a good test run and i was really liking what i felt. I definitely have to get used to it mentally though and realize i can get up into the lip much quicker than the 5'8. Pumped to try it out on a wave that's just a hair slower with a better pace. The waves today were really quick then closeout. But the fact that i was able to pull things off that i wouldn't on the 5'8 on the same wave.....stoked. Board is definitely covering what i wanted it to.

Then it’s a home run! Just think what your gonna do in better surf and with some personal time into it...sounds like you’ve rounded out your quiver in all Aces. Stoked for you.

Yeah man. My quiver was already on point and had all my bases covered. Now im just filling in some spots. I progressed alot on the 5'8. My turns were brought up to the next level on that board. Now im looking to see how progressive and "new school" i can get. 5'8 was making that a bit difficult although i was able to muscle some progression out of it. After today im confident the 5'7 will help me there. And if i want to just go for more drawn out open face stuff or that's what the waves call for, thats the 5'8s jam! Despite the deck looking like someone used it as a punching bag, it's still in good condition. Never had a ding. I don't think. Very few dings if it has.

Sounds like you found a winner! After a few sessions it should start feeling like an extension of you. My 6ft M-80 felt small and light at first but after several sessions I found that it’s a great boart that handles the critical drops better than any boart I own. That confidence goes a long way. It’s nice knowing that your equipment can’t hold you back, only you can.
