Ask him if he used UV cure resin... that's even harder to mix in and make a homogeneous solution.

Cure temp depends on the resin and additives used. It can be anywhere between... say... 80F to 120F for typical resins. The more catalyst, the hotter the cure, the shorter the cure time, the less cross-linking of polymer chains, the more free radical styrenes... the more diffusion of styrene molecules. So... if he used UV cat, or if he kicked it too hot to make it cure faster... that could contribute to the smell. It doesn't mean it's a bad glass job... like I said, there's really never zero diffusion... just leaves more volatiles behind to diffuse out later.

It's all useless knowledge... like trivia. Who cares? Does it make you surf better? No.

I respectfully disagree with you LB - your in-depth knowledge of “trivial” things makes you a trusted and needed source of useable information that helps people make more informed, thought out decisions about things like building and buying boarts, repairing well worn but well loved borts that WORK for the rider. That stuff most CERTAINLY makes a better surfer. Humble is awesome Dude, but don’t belittle yourself - the force is strong in this one
    Haha

I just stumbled upon this thread. I wish I would have seen it before.

Back when I repaired boards a for a local shaper he showed me the coolest thing ever.

He would take the foot section of some stockings (like ladies wear), fill it with some foam dust from the shaping machine, and tie off the end so it was like a sausage link of foam dust inside the stocking. It worked like magic for removing wax.

You still had to scrape the thick stuff off with a scraper or a razorblade (bent so it wont scratch the glass), but the foam dust would take the remaining wax right off with ZERO CHEMICALS.

I think it would dry out the schmeared on wax and cause it to roll off. It seemed like magic haha. I still stop by to pick up a little bit of dust so I can keep one of the little stocking things in my shed.

Just don't keep it in your car, if you get pulled over the cops might think you're a freak.

Once I cleaned out my SUV, found duct tape, a pair of gloves, a beanie (Jameson), and some bailing wire and wire cutters. Not a good look. LOL

I used to have a collection of other people's IDs. I literally had about 7 or 8 in my wallet. I don't even know why. I found one, then all of a sudden i had a bunch. One day i had to pull out my ID for somthing and the dude checking asked, so i showed him all the other IDs. He just looked at me all sketchy like.... dude, not a good look
