Aggravated surf leash Assault! Lol

I surfed a spot this year a lot that is a-framey and crowded. I'm goofy so I'm looking for the lefts. There are way more guys looking for the rights. Sitting shoulder to shoulder with them and they LOVE the rights. So a peak comes right to us that looks like it has a right and a left...just like the last countless peaks. I'm sitting to the left and GO left. Just like the last half dozen waves. Only this time, the guy whose been going right takes off behind me and goes left. so just like that i'm right in front of them. It happened quite a few times this year....by me...and to me...

I think its the result of having surfed with the same guys so many times in the exact same conditions..you feel like you know what they are going to do...you assume. like you said.

Exactly. It's diffrent from not paying attention or a blatant drop in. But it happens. Except to DP apparently.

Some guy yanked my leash in CR and I kicked him in the face. He was being a full on Richard.

I'd been watching this guy backpaddling everybody, including me, and snaking guys on the best rights. I was pissed.

A perfect A-frame came up later, and I expected him to go right. So I started to line up for the left, and asked him "are you going left or right". No response.

The peak is looming closer, so I ask him again. His response? He snarled, "you see which way I'm going".

So I responded, "oh yeah? F*** you, d**k" and cut him off going left. That's where the leash grabbing and face kicking started lol.

Words were exchanged, and I pointed out his poor etiquette led to my equally poor response. He paddled away saying "why don't you just go ahead and cut everybody off" and I pointed at him and said, "no, just you."

Nobody came me near me after that, and I got some great uncontested waves.

But, to be honest, it really ruined my session.

I'd rather not be aggressive in the water, but I have a really hard time letting anybody punk me.

 

This made me smile. A little communication goes a long way. He deserved some toe fungus in his grill!

 

Everybody makes a mistake every now and then, but I can count on one hand how many times I have dropped in on someone when I shouldn’t have, and it’s been YEARS since any of those happened.

It was when I was less experienced, felt more entitled or was clueless. If it happens today it’s going to be on purpose to send a message or because I happen to be at a crowded spot (rare) and it is a complete shit show where all rules have gone out the window.

I literally have stopped surfing with certain people who can’t seem to get the concept of don’t drop in, when it’s just the two of us in the water. It’s annoying.

 

I really do hate being "that guy". But respect is a mutual deal. Any blatant disrespect will be met accordingly.

A surf lineup should roughly resemble a ski lift line. Wait your turn behind the guys who have waited longer. When you catch a wave, no matter how good or bad, you go back to the end of the line. Blow your takeoff? End of the line. Miss the takeoff? End of the line. And wait out on the shoulder for a bit after a wave, don't paddle straight out to the sweet spot in the peak next to the guys who are waiting their turn.

But the girl in the video was in perfect position, AND was already up and riding when this D-bag tugged her leash. It doesn't get much more blatant than that, except for DP's videos shown above (that Medina one, yikes).

So yeah, this guy deserves a whuppin

Ala moana story. Dude paddles out on longboard and takes set waves for maybe an hour. After each set the boys start grumbling. They finally had enough. Tell guy to stop. Guy tells Ala mo' local to STFU, guy is literally beaten for a minute by five dudes. Blood everywhere. Fucked him up good. Dude paddles in and leaves. Order restored. I surf for fun thus no longer screw with anyone but I really respect order in the line up.

If I can, I’ll call out where I’m headed if I see it coming to that: I’ll call out the direction that’s opposite of what I think their doing just to be polite and keep a good vibe -

 

All due respect, but i call BS. It's ok, everybody makes mistakes. To say it only happens in a crowd where etiquette goes out the window or on purpose implies that you are perfect and never make a mistake. Mitchell got what i was talking about. It's not about being clueless or entitled. At least not in the situation im taking about. Sometimes it just happens. We're all human and no one is perfect.

And just to clarify, you completly missed my point. Before this summer i would of had the same response you had. I drop in but it's rare. My whole point was sometimes when it's not a blatant drop in you don't even realize it if the guy you dropped in on doesn't say anything. Just because you don't realize (because it was an honest mistake) doesn't mean it doesn't happen to you.

I HIGHLY doubt you can count on one hand how many times you've dropped in and that it's been YEARS. Im not saying you do it constantly. Just more than you think. Unless this is a whole "i can do airs, i just choose not to" type thing again.

 

No BS, I have vision and pay attention to what’s going on around me. It’s not that hard. If I’m paddling for a wave, I look both ways and if someone else is going too and they have better position or priority I pull off and let them go. It’s not hard to do. Guys who paddle with blinders on get annoying real fast to me, and I try to not be that guy. I didn’t miss your point, you are justifying your actions lol it’s fine, just surf the next peak down from me and we’re all good.

I have surfed with several people on here, never dropped in on any of them that I can recall. Zeroevol was the last guy I surfed with, let him borrow my boart, and we shared a peak. Never had an issue with either of us dropping in on each other. We shared the peak all morning, it was one of few spots working. Either we took turns or we split the peak and went opposite directions by communicating.

I think one time after I caught a wave and rode it in, I paddled back out and was in his line when he caught the next one behind me, still got out of his way with no problem. Pretty sure I said my bad for being in his line even though it wasn’t an issue. It’s about being mindful of others.

There’s one guy who will remain nameless, I surfed a bunch with him and he would go with blinders on when I was closer to the peak and was already up and riding, did it constantly and never even knew I was annoyed by it, I no longer surf with that guy. I would paddle down the beach to get away and have my space. All you gotta do is look man, just open your friggen eyes and communicate if you both look like you’re gonna go. Is that so hard? Or do you just HAVE to go on every damn wave?
