Gloves are tighter and and for me, when my fingers get cold, circulation shuts down. No bueno. Lobster mitts are the perfect mix of keeping some dexterity while still keep fingers warm.

Because mittens last longer due to their construction. One long seam that doesnt need to flex as much as gloves for each individual finger.

Warmer, more durable, mittens for me.

curious if ya'll think mittens "hurted" your surfing with grabbing the rail or any potential problems. i get how they could be better for paddling out like oars connected to your arms

For me, in SENC, I just don't think the water gets cold enough to warrant mitts.

I'm good into the low 50's with 1.5 mil gloves, as long as I tuck my hands into my armpits when I'm in the lineup. I also have a super warm wetsuit so the blood going out to my hands is nice and warm.

When i have thick rubber on my hands it feels like my hands want to float and I can't get any paddling traction.

I had a pair of Quiksilvers similar to those a couple of years back for exactly 1 session. Took them right back to the store. Whatever they had coated the hands with was so slippery that they were dangerous. Could not hold onto the board with them. It was scary and ruined the session. Took them right back still wet and got a pair of Rip Curls.

Rip Curl makes a quality product, as does Xcel.

Mittens are definitely warmer than fingered gloves, and generally work just as well when grabbing your rails

Lobster claws... all you need for dexterity are your thumb and forefinger. The rest of the fingers can keep each other warm.

I don't like the actual mitten type.
