Has this thread been done before? Anyway, to start the new year I was wondering if we could get an idea of who the mods are for SI FY2019 Age Gender Experience level Board/s Type How often you surf/get in the water If this website is being run by Corporate (none Surfers), we need to start a new website and burn this one down.
Judging by the handouts for potty talk, specifically in the political threads, I’d say maybe some berkenstocks in the shoe bin and some cycling spandex in the ikea closets. Now to see if I get banned again Hahahah
The son of a bait-store proprietor, Micah grew up near the water, and he began surfing at age five. By age 10 he was winning age-division events up and down the Atlantic coast, and in 1984 he won his first age-division United States championship title. Two years later he finished third in the junior division at the world amateur championships in England, and he won the Pacific Cup junior championship in Australia the following year After turning professional in 1990, Micah struggled during his first two years on the professional tour, finishing 90th and 43rd in the world rankings those years. In 1992 he secured podium (top-three) finishes in three of his first five events before winning his first professional tour event, the Rip Curl Pro, in France. His win in that year’s prestigious Pipeline Masters in Hawaii secured his first world title, and at age 20 he became the youngest surfing world champion ever. Micah finished sixth in the 1993 rankings but came back in 1994 to win the world tour during 1994-1998. He then took a break from competitive surfing at the end of 1998.[2] Micah, having grown up in Delaware, was never truly comfortable in waves of consequence until a trip to Oahu in 1997. A giant Northwest swell was pounding the coast, closing out breaks from Waimea to Sunset. He drove to Makaha, where he was greeted with 40' (Hawaiian scale) waves breaking across the bay. Micah parked and saw legendary charger Brandon "Big Wave" Davis waxing up his 11' gun. Big Wave Davis simply gave Micah a wink and they paddled out, trading waves all afternoon. Micah credits Davis in his biography stating "Brandon's knowledge and poise in large surf had a huge impact on my career. Anytime I'm dropping in a big wave, I think back to that wink in the Makaha parking lot and I push myself over the ledge.
I kinda doubt that Micah Sklut, ex-Surfline alum, is a mod at this point? He was the founder / owner, sold the site (abondonnnerre) returned & runs it still, but I may be in error. More likely that the mods are guys that he's picked. One of the mods, can't recall his name, used to post a ton under his aviator, prior to becoming a mod. During those bad ol' dayz I got into it with him over who knows what (imagine that). When he became a mod, he banned me for years for doing literally nothing. The worst was that nutso-de-facto loadstar from Texas. Never surfed, had no plans to surf, don't think he even liked the ocean. He would insert himself & his weird life 'experiences' into treade after treade. He finally came unglued when, apparently, his wife dumped him, took the kid & split. I think Unky 2B had a hand in encouraging him to go to the abyss, if you know what I mean. Unky got perma-banned, the Tejas mod ....went away? DP, some of the original heads know more. Anyways, good luck in finding out what's behind the curtain, HH. Could be The Wizard of Oz, dude. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
That curtain Is GREEN Yank - and the guy behind it is a bumhug “The Dark Tower” reference for you edjamacated swellies
There are actual work at home jobs for "Social Media Moderator." the only requirement is familiarity with social media and basic computer skills. So there's a chance the SIMods are getting paid (not much) to read through this crap and don't own a surfboard at all.
... it’s a long story- but was once run by a surfer in the good ol days but he sold us out and adandoneed us all Been a down word spiral ever since Seems like Sheldon Scene always new a lot about these types of things
This sounds about right, particularly the part about the fat texan. That was actually mildly entertaining 'til the s*** hit the fan so-to-speak haha. U2B is a legend for what he did, same with SS. But me, I couldn't care less. I just copy and pasted Kelly Slater's wikipedia bio and changed all the "Kelly" to "Micah", and "Florida" to "Delaware" ha
Back in the day, SI was policed by one man. I can't recall if he came from Delaware or NJ but he moderated the forum using his actual user name. He didn't hide behind some generic moniker like "Simod5 or Simod3" He wasn't a coward. He knew the forum was populated with the worst sort of degenerates. The forum was a hive of scum and villainy. But he ruled over this crooked internet fiefdom with an iron fist. His name? Matt Johnson.
Jay, I see him in the lineup pretty frequently in Delaware. Both on longboard and shortboard. More importantly, he is a really good guy. Pleasure to surf with.
