The sun has set on my trip! Back to the grind and time to think about the next voyage... Looks like some other swellers are getting some travel in...not to mention some New Year local swellage!!! It will be hard to put the rubber on after freestyling in tropical trunk weather!!!
Nice! Where is this? Sorry if you mentioned earlier and I missed it! Either Rincon (for the second year in a row, but only my second time there) or Barbados in about 17 more days! Still going back and forth. Don't really care about not saving money by booking last minute! Anywhere else is too far for right now, as I only get about 6 days and I'm pressed for time!
Costa Rica has seen a rise in murders in 2012, and a record 603 people were killed in 2017. Meanwhile, authorities told Bloomberg that they’re forecasting an even higher number in 2018. “These incidents infuriate us,” President Carlos Alvarado told Bloomberg, and he promised “intense work” to address the situation. According to the US embassy website, “Crime is increasing in Costa Rica and US citizens are frequent victims … US citizens are encouraged to exercise a high level of caution and vigilance due to increasing levels of violent crime.” And the US embassy has advised visitors to be extra cautious in the cities of Liberia, San Rafael and San Jose due to crime.
Careful!! Im listening!!!!!!!! PR had 1465 homicides in 2016. Makes Illinois jealous. CR is junior varsity, if not peewee ......
Just got back from 2 weeks in Nica. Santana/popoyo area. Surfed everyday only got in a car once walked everywhere. Got rid of my winter gut. Waves were a C. There was a chest or maybe at the smallest waist hi wave tk be found everyday but the wind was really out of control a few days. Also the crowds at popoyo still kind of suck even though there were almost no tourists around... The locals have it dialed... Still got plenty of waves but a lot more hassling then I'd like to do on a trip. The five days that Santana were working were much better... Surfed it with just one dude out on the last day and there were some great barrels coming in.... F spirit Airlines they wouldn't let us take our boards even with a fee what a load of crayp. Overall, had a great trip but don't think I would go there at this time of year again....maybe I've been spoiled by all the epic uncrowded/empty surf in Mexico and standards are too high though. Was debating between Rivas area and closer to chinendega and chose Rivas because I thought the crowds would be light for once but the wind really messes things up... The north area has much lighter winds this time of year and some of the beaches are best on a tiny swell... Then again I bet finding a board to rent would've been tough up there...hope everyone has a good 2019 and gets to travel and catch some waves... Cheers Heres a pic
Ya spirit was supposed. To be 100$ for two boards each way.. Then we go to check in and they had a "luggage embargo" going for the holidays.... They said we could fly back with the boards though... Cause that helps
buddy said he got a CR trip to Nosara in several weeks as a xmas gift. naturally, another buddy and I upon hearing the news figured we should get a trip going- at the time he's going so we didn't have to be real jelly. plan is last wknd of January - either St Aug - hotels on the beach - or Flagler - Topaz Hotel likely - thanks for the recommendation by the way. Also, PR likely first wknd of March. Less of a surfing trip but more of a nudge for a buddy to get off the Continental US. would be San Juan for a couple days and down to Ponce for the fest. my non-surfing trip is in between - NBA Allstar game in CLT mid Feb. hopefully 2019 fares well for me
embargoes suck. thankfully I'm type A and was on top of things but there were a ton of people who got screwed in CR.
I see it in her eyes.......a reflection of the Tri-Color, and I hear the music in the background....La Marseillaise.... Looks as if we may be returning to France, this time to include Hosegor, Biarritz, and San Sebastian in Spain. Aww shucks dear, bring me to my knees...make me go to a surf spot!!
Killer! San Sebastian can be very crowded... but if you're on it early, you'll get a few to yourself.
