This is my favorite Dead song. This one was in 73. Some consider the best time for live dead. My sister had an incredible record collection and she let me play whatever I wanted. I remember Night of the opera, Toys in the attic and Back in black. I just grabbed stuff because of the album covers looked cool. I do the same with wine. When she got married and moved out she left me her Stereo. My brother in law had a way better one. He also taught me to surf so you know, there's that( I named my 1st kid after him.) Anyway although she gave me the equipment she took the records. Somehow Wake of the Flood didn't make the move. Tapes being more of the thing at the time. I wasn't buying records but loved playing the turntable. So I always played this album even though I really didn't know anything about the Grateful Dead. even later in high school and college I didn't listen to them. Went to a couple of shows during that time but it was because of the scene not the music. My Special lady is a dead head. When she found out I've seen shows with Jerry she flipped. She was too young when he passed on. Now I listen to them all the time and go see whatever version of them is rolling through town. When they do this one I'm at the peak.
I remember one of the last times we saw these guys, it was a good hour into the show and they played this song - and I still remember getting pit of my stomach scared. The vibe went really dark for real. I backed out of the pit and later that night a guy got stabbed pretty good in a corner. Just a heavy groove
Hot damn, that was a great year. 72 as well. The Europe run was magic. Lots of Pigpen tunes. Really clean. Especially when you compare it to the famous show in Oregon later that year. But man... I love Micky and its hard to say 'favorite' without the rhythm devil as part of the lineup. Still, agree. Early 70's were dynamite.
Fkn A Dude. And agreed, it was hard for me to acknowledge personally how much I dug '73 considering Mickey's absence. Without Mickey we'd have no Beam.
where yous two been? later on i dig Jerry stuff like this. The smaller venue stuff sounds better to me.
