Far too much emphasis exists nowadays on expensive gadgetry, equipment, comfort & convenience rather than actual outdoor skills. It's ironic, really.
This holds true not only for hunting but practically all outdoor activities.

Man has a longstanding proclivity for waste, greed and slaughter. The American Bison is but just one example.

you could argue that the more modern stuff is more humane it that it leads to better accuracy and a quicker kill.

I guess it's a well known shark called Deep Blue? or something like that. A legit 20 footer, no CGI. Wouldn't even have to chew her.

It was nuts... I saw videos Clark Little posted.. She was the only one "riding" the shark, but they were about 10 people in the water and not in a cage...
Not that I would even consider getting in the water with that beast, but the fact that it was feeding on a whale does make it a bit more doable.
I remember watching something (probably on Shark Week) with whites feeding on a whale. They would eat so much they'd go almost catatonic. That's what it looked like in Hawaii. The shark appeared to not have any interest in all the people swimming around

Very true, IF it’s not bought to overcome a deficiency in practice, skill or plain experience. Or just an ego trip. I’ve hunted with guys that had $10k custom rifles and optics used by SEALteam 6 (legitimately) that STILL couldn’t shoot, hunt or take more than a few hours outside.
To me, hunting takes work, practice and respect. I’ve killed deer with a BEAR recurve bow that was made in the 70’s, a Marlin lever action 30/30 with iron sites, and I’ve also killed deer with a custom TSS 70lb draw compound bow and a Weatherby .300 MAG with a $1200 Leupold scope. Point being Pump, your point is correct if the new gear is actually used to its level. It’s like me buying a custom built HP big guy short bort that I can’t surf...all I’ve done so far is maul some swells and keep people away from me hahahaha

Depends on the human who is using the technology. As well, many more humans hunting for ‘sport’ now than ever.
Sort of like saying people are better drivers now with the modern vehicles than before when vehicles didn’t have all this technology....

id say things like 'stay in the lane', blind spot notices and rear camera probably do cut down on accidents

You could say the same thing about GPS... in cars, and in the woods. Both make the navigator dumber.

Totally. Technology dumbs down the most intelligent species on the planet, not across the board but certainly hugely.

In high school, geography class is now, "How to use GPS", and/ or , "Don't forget to use turn signals once GPS tells you which way to turn".

So many are addicted to their phones...to the point of absurdity. They're figuratively and literally lost without them. There may now even be a medical "syndrome" for this.

GPS makes it easy but without it many have no navigation skills, can't read a map, and lack basic sense of direction and location. Their eyes are continuously and dangerously glued to the "smart" phone, blinded from actual surroundings like a rat in a maze.

But with progress and changing technology, old skills are lost and replaced by new ones.
Still, I'm always amazed at what our ancestors accomplished without today's methods, equipment, and technology. They seem to have been much tougher than we are today.

We grew up having to develop the skills of map reading... and SIGN reading. Kids driving by GPS today don't read signs. Like... ANY signs. Like... "Do Not Enter" signs... "One Way" signs... etc. Smart phones need to get smarter, 'cause kids aint!
