It's also a good lesson for those overly aggressive "Wanabe Pro's" at the local breaks. Even the best lose a rail on a hard cut. I've seen more than one guy trying to spray the face of someone else that ended up down his line. Fins cut deep too!
Yep I was surfing the pier some months ago caught a right then this new*** got in the way he couldn't duck dive or paddle so he tried to walk to the break. I was just going to pull out real far and go around him but instead he decides to ditch and shove his board towards my path cracked my rail my shin hit his board and his tail hit the right side of my face about an inch from my eye causing it to cut open. dude didnt even have the decency to ask if I was ok...
Holy sh!t that was from the nose of the board?? I thought it was from one of the skegs. The guy must have booted it directly into the kid's head!
All we can do is pray for the kid. Hopefully he will be back in the water this summer, he has his age on his side. All the more reason to get in the water as early as possible and late in the afternoon to miss the mid day romper room session. I will surf a just ok break in the summer to have some sanity. Don't let the lawmakers see this - we'll all be wearing helmets.
I think his age hurts him too a little bit because at 10 your skull is probably not fully developed. I hope the kid will be ok. He's gonna be a really good surfer if he's considered experienced by the age of 10. I wish I'd started that early
Awful , thoughts of this cross my mind in summer when , there are no lifegaurds / open surf and parents are with little kids right in front of surfers. When half a block away... if that far , empty ocean for them to play. You can tell them but they won't listen.

yep swimmers are annoying as fck when there are waves. they want to get as close as possible to surfers so they can see, yet they expect you to move for them when they are the ones in the way.
idk how many times i could have smacked swimmers stright in the face if i dropped in and didnt pull out. most of the time its either little kids who are unsupervised or idiots who have no idea about the beach and what spots are for surfing and what spots are for swimming. i mean the lifeguard clearly tells them and i have seen it but pay some attention. its one thing when i mess up my wave, but when someone else ruins my ride i start to get heated.
