Then why did they let teams leave LA 20 years ago?

Miami and LA have too good of weather and other stuff to do to ever have a rabid fanbase.

I hate to answer a question with another question, but:

Has the NFL ever stopped anyone from relocating their team?

I believe they tried to block the Rams from leaving LA in '95 because they could have kept the team in Anaheim but the new Rams ownership eventually got the relocation approved because STL looked to be more profitable.

Yeah, but they didn't stop them.

IIRC, the original owner from the 70's (Carroll Rosenbloom) died and left the team to his showgirl dancer trophy wife (Georgia Frontiere), who had zero business experience. Georgia hated LA and had considered moving the team to her hometown of StL.

the owners byotched and moaned and possibly even set up roadblocks so that any effort to move the team could be blocked or voided. But she turned out to be way more savvy than the NFL thought, and also had excellent legal advice. The team eventually moved without a whimper.

This is just from memory, so I may be off with some details.

the last time the NFL attempted to stop a team from moving (Raiders from OAK to LA) they got their asses handed to them by Al Davis, and I think that the NFL was on the hook for treble damages lol.

I think they learned their lesson

She sold 40% to Kroenke (the current owner) in 95 because she needed cash. He wanted to move the team to STL because the team wasn't making money in LA and any new team makes a ton of money in the first few seasons.

Also you reference the Raiders, another team that left LA. If LA is such a good sports market, why have they had such trouble keeping a football team there? There isn't any other city I know of to have 2 NFL teams pack up and leave. I just don't think the NFL would rig it for a market that has never been super promising.

Yeah, unfortunately at that stage the guy had pretty much lost his marbles and was hanging on by a thread. He was all in on Jamarcus Russell lol, too bad the dude is a drug addict, because he had a cannon for an arm. But the press conference...funny stuff. Here you go, in all it's glory lol

i dunno why dude, I'm just playing devil's advocate and seeing what crap sticks to the wall lol

Even tho LA has been a drab football market, the Lakers and Dodgers have been top draws on America's 2nd largest market.

you find a football team (or 2) with that kind of juice and your bread is buttered.

    think Jets/Giants

That's not nice... The fact is that the amount of people that tuned in at one point in the game is the lowest in 2008. I understand that a bad game can make people turn the game off, but it does explain why less people watched at the beginning. Moron

Hey moron, you did not pay attention to my theory at all! Now pay attention...There are now 3, count them 3 new franchises that are starting up on the West Coast. The NFL needs to gain popularity amongst these new fan bases. So yeah the NFL was very happy to have the LA Rams in the Super Bowl, ecstatic they were! They wouldn't care if Lieutenant Dan was quarterbacking the Rams.

The NFL keeps parading the games over to London every year with little fanfare, how do you explain that? My theory holds, thank you very much.

"But Lt. Dan, you dont have any legs."

The Raiders and Chargers were already on the west coast, weird we never saw them in the Super Bowl recently.
