Yeah, the citizens of Haiti and the country itself will have trouble rebuilding and responding to this earthquake due to the high poverty rate. I hope America helps out as much as they can.
this comes to my question, where is Laird Hamilton going to town into the tsunami? haha But will this gnerate any thing that will make it to the mid atlantic?
completely agree with you. America sticks their noses in everything. yes they need help but dont say America will help. the organizations funded by the poeple that care will help. ie red cross. what about new orleans? kartrina? we still havent finished that recovery effort. we dont have the ability to start another.
Guys let's keep some perspective. As much as a travesty the lack of response in 2006 was the traumatic days of the Katrina disaster have long passed. Haiti is happening right now and the next 48 hours are crucial as to whether thousands of people live or die. They need water, have no where to sleep in Port au Prince where concrete slabs lie trapping I don't even want to think how many people. They don't have the heavy equipment to do anything, most of their doctors are dead already cause hospitals have collapsed where they were. The UN and many other foriegn aid troops are unaccounted for. They need help and desperately because basically you have about a 4 million people around the epicenter with no shelter and water and a logistical nightmare... I wish I could fly to the DR load a f---ing truck up with water and basic supplies and drive to Haiti to feel like I really did something and then surf on my way back or as I waited for another resupply of the truck so I could make my way back with more supplies. Instead all I can do is write on this forum and send a feeble check to one of the many aid agencies - http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/impact/ - check em out if you want., hopefully you pick the one with the least bureaucracy so your buck gets more bang. It's just crazy, Haiti is only about 1300 miles from NYC and obviously a lot closer to Florida. There are several hundred thousand Haitian Americans. They're the second oldest democracy in the region and the poorest country in hemisphere. They need our help now! Let's not linger because of regrets of the past. A lot of Marines and Coasties are already on their way, let's pray for everyone...
Finally, someone with some sense. I was getting the vibe that most of the people on here are jerks and anti-humanists based on their selfish responses. We, America, need to help out. I don't think that is up for debate. btw, our government is classified as a democratic republic, not a democracy. Also, when writing the Constitution, John Adams was asked what kind of government America would have. He answered, "A republic, if you can keep it." Only over the years has it evolved democratically. And also, we do indeed have one of the best governmental systems in the world. It's complexity ensures a separation and balance of powers: it is the people within the government that leads ignorant people to state, "Our government is corrupted." So don't mock the American Government. It is much better than you think. Guys, it's simple. The right thing to do is to send aid to Haiti. I'm sure the Government will do just that, so who are we to decide.
The taxpayers who supply the government with any money they send over there. I'm not taking sides here either, just saying.
Yes that is true. But we elected these officials who are more competent politically, therefore we must trust and support there decision as taxpayers. Though, I am not a taxpayer yet, my parents are. So I will retire from any more debate.
Obama should just push another trillion dollar stimulus and give it all to the red cross, an organization that happens to be more corrupt than the government itself
I'm not trying to get political. I just wanted to remind everyone that the government spends our money. Not their money or some money that grows on a magical tree, but our hard-earned money.
I have been getting updates on the News though out the day . I have the citizens for Hati in my prayers for sure. Obama was on tv this morning saying how they are gonna go there basicly see over the rebuilding process. Just think about this we could end up a third world country at some point . Wouldnt you like someone to help you or you family out in a time of need
Great point man. And for anyone who thinks the US should be self-centered with these issues - the public relations backlash would considerably impact us within the global community/marketplace. Like or not, we need to care what our neighbors think of us. Especially with the amount of crap we import because can't produce anything our damn selves. So if you don't care about other human beings who can't help themselves, think about the consequences we'd face. Ok I guess I took a side
