Socialism is again going mainstream in the U.S., or at least in the Democratic Party, and apparently the 21st-century version includes the international socialist solidarity that marked the 20th. As Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro hunts for allies amid a revolt of his desperate people, he is finding rare support among America’s Democratic socialists.

Bernie Sanders, the once and future U.S. presidential candidate, issued this balm for the comrades in Caracas late last week:

“The United States should support the rule of law, fair elections and self-determination for the Venezuelan people. We must condemn the use of violence against unarmed protesters and the suppression of dissent. However, we must learn the lessons of the past and not be in the business of regime change or supporting coups—as we have in Chile, Guatemala, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic. The United States has a long history of inappropriately intervening in Latin American countries; we must not go down that road again.”

Mr. Maduro stole the last election and his National Guard are killing protesters, but Mr. Sanders is most worried about U.S. support for “regime change.” Regime change is exactly what the people of Venezuela want. Bernie is siding with the dictator, who survives in power only because of the military and Cuban intelligence.

Then there’s the newest socialist star, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC for short), who retweeted this response from left-wing California Democrat Ro Khanna to Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin’s support for the Venezuelan uprising: “With respect Senator Durbin, the US should not anoint the leader of the opposition in Venezuela during an internal, polarized conflict. Let us support Uruguay, Mexico, & the Vatican’s efforts for a negotiated settlement & end sanctions that are making the hyperinflation worse.”

Sorry, Mr. Khanna and AOC, the U.S. didn’t “anoint” anyone. The elected Venezuelan National Assembly named Juan Guaidó its interim president, as it is allowed to do under the Venezuelan constitution. The U.S. merely recognized him as the legitimate president of the country.

As for a negotiated settlement, where has Mr. Khanna been? Apparently not anywhere near Venezuela, unlike Mr. Durbin, who says that last year he “found a country on the verge of political, economic and humanitarian collapse. I told then-President Maduro that if he went ahead with a sham election under absurdly rigged conditions he would find his regime even further isolated and in question.”

Impoverished and malnourished, Venezuelans are now resorting to the streets because they know the regime will not cede power on its own. Most of the free world has rallied to their side. The nations supporting Mr. Maduro include such notable democracies as Russia, China, Iran, Cuba, Turkey, Nicaragua and Hezbollah.

Incredibly enough, this is the socialist solidarity that America’s premier Democratic socialists are joining. Remember that when they say America needs socialism too.

According to The Hill, Ocasio-Cortez’s open call for more radical candidates to take out her fellow Democrats has "infuriated" her colleagues, some of whom are already floating the idea of finding a primary challenger who can make the youngest woman to ever be elected to Congress a "one-term congressperson."

"At least one House Democrat has been privately urging members of the New York delegation to recruit a local politician from the Bronx or Queens to challenge Ocasio-Cortez," The Hill’s Scott Wong reports.

"What I have recommended to the New York delegation is that you find her a primary opponent and make her a one-term congressperson," the Democratic lawmaker told the outlet on condition of anonymity. "You’ve got numerous council people and state legislators who’ve been waiting 20 years for that seat. I’m sure they can find numerous people who want that seat in that district."

Wong reports that among those who have begun to look sideways at the freshman representative are "many" Congressional Black Caucus members. "Many New York and Congressional Black Caucus lawmakers were also furious with Ocasio-Cortez after a recent Politico report stated she and the grass-roots group aligned with her, Justice Democrats, were considering backing a primary challenge to fellow New York Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, a Black Caucus member and establishment insider who succeeded Crowley as caucus chairman," Wong writes.

 

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris embraced the radical left on Monday night during a CNN town hall in which she called for the elimination of the free market in healthcare and advocated for a complete government takeover of the industry.

Harris made the comments while responding to a question from an audience member, who asked: "What is your solution to ensure that people have access to quality health care at an affordable price, and does that solution involve cutting insurance companies as we know them out of the equation?"

"I believe the solution — and I actually feel very strongly about this — is that we need to have Medicare for all," Harris responded. "That’s just the bottom line."

Harris defended her position by claiming that healthcare is a right (it's not), declaring that the current system was "inhumane" to people.

CNN's Jake Tapper, who used to be a Democratic political press aide, noted that Harris' stance would "totally eliminate private insurance."

"So for people out there who like their insurance, they don’t get to keep it?" Tapper asked.

"Let’s eliminate all of that," Harris responded, saying it's time to "move on" from the current system.

 

In 2002 the Senate voted on whether to authorize GW Bush to use force Iraq to oust Hussein. The vote tally was 77 to 23.

Based on the logic in the article above, would you agree that the 23 dissenting Senators were showing their support for Iraq's dictator?

I dont think that will happen. Too many people voted for change (trump). Trump has lost 0 voters. He has gained voters. Like I said before - crazy politics got us Trump.
