I'm a football nerd. Go bears. Damit they're not in the super bowl so go non-Patriots (RAMS). Also if the rams win I win 25$ which is nothing but will keep the game interesting for me. No worries if ya don't like it different strokes

I got into a pool at work... so between the chance to win a few bucks, and rooting for Brady to loose (and I'm a MICHIGAN guy... that's how sick of him I am), that's enough to keep me awake for at least half the game.

 

I get that folks are over Brady winning... I don't really care much either way, but I do respect unbelievable greatness.
It is incredible that Brady/Belichick have been able to sustain this level of greatness for such a long period of time in a salary capped sport that has the most parody of any of the major sports.
That being said, he can go fuk himself for all I care.

 

Going over to a friend's house, cooking 5-6 lbs of Cuban Pulled Pork in a pressure cooker (cuban marinade? flavor? idk what makes it Cuban, never eaten much Cuban food so going off the recipe name but made it a couple weeks ago and it was spectacular) along with some queso and guac all to be eaten with chips, tortillas, toppings etc... not sure if hosts will be making additional food or just me. I'm a big fan of inviting myself to other people's houses but then cooking feasts in return. Beer will most likely be Kane Head High, probably my favorite beer these days and I live less than a mile from the brewery (for another few weeks, then will not be able to get it regularly anymore).

Would actually prefer to be hosting friends at home, and going quite a bit bigger in terms of menu, but we've already started getting rid of any furniture that's not coming with us when we move to an 850 sqft apt in a couple weeks. So nowhere to sit.

I've had a bit of an on again off again relationship with sports over my life. More off than on. Super bowl will be one of the only games I've watched the majority of this year, actually one of the only games I've watched any portion of. Hard to watch football when surf, ski, and mountain bike are all much higher priorities, and Sundays during football season frequently offer a prime opportunity for one or more of those. Would never choose watching a game over doing something active. With the possible exception of a watching a championship game with my dad if one of the teams we both follow is in it.

I like the super bowl though... even during phases of complete disinterest in sports. I'm pretty passionate about cooking, and I view the super bowl as one of the two biggest occasions of the year for home cooks to go all out and cook massive feasts to share with (or show off for) other people. The other being thanksgiving, but in general I vastly prefer the types of food typically eaten at super bowl get-togethers.

Don't really care about the game either way. Hoping it's an entertaining one. My father is a die-hard 49ers fan and I grew up one as well. Still would call myself a casual one, but interest waxes and wanes from year to year. Played from 6th through 10th grade and around 8-9th grade was completely obsessed with the sport... playing, watching, and training for it, was basically my life focus (which is good, since HS practices were often 4-5 hours on weekdays, longer if we lost the previous week, and def longer during summer practices). But right at the end of summer practices my junior year, I mentally hit a wall and completely burnt out on all of it. Quit playing on first day of school of my junior year (a decision I have never regretted for either a second), and probably didn't even watch a game (other than the occasional super bowl and a handful of games I attended at my college) for the next 6 or 7 years. Got pretty into football again for the few years I lived in CO for two reasons: my boss was a football fanatic, so it gave me something to talk about with him -- he was kind of an awkward guy in general and it really helped establish a rapport. More importantly sports gave me something to talk about with my dad on weekly hour-long phone calls during my commute. But once I moved back to NJ, it quickly fell off the bottom of my list of interests, and I can't imagine prioritizing watching sports at this point in my life.

When I care, my teams are the 49ers, the Yankees, and Carolina Tar Heels (my alma mater... but basketball only, their football team is a perennial disappointment even/especially considering the number of good NFL players they produce). But aside from the occasional playoff/tournament game involving one of my teams, I mostly align with Barry's take on it: why tf would I ever waste my time watching other people, who I've never met and don't care about in the slightest, do something fun and active when I could instead be living my own life?

I do like the super bowl though. But it's not about football for me, it's a food holiday. And I love food more than anything. Even more than surfing.

Yeah I grew up a jock until 14 when I discovered bong rips and the beach.

Still like sports but my interest isn't as strong as it once was. My wife never misses a game, football or baseball. She drinks more beer than me too. So if I want to keep having sex relations with her then I have to sit on the couch now and then.

Usually see the Mariners or Seahawks in person once or twice a year, that's always fun.

But I probably do that for sex relations too

My Jerzy friends just bought a house down here so they are hosting a big shin dig. They are big time Jets fans so lots of Brady hate will be flowing.

My wife is smoking a couple turkey breasts, and a couple tri tips for the crew.

I think being a fan has alot to due with family ties, and remembering my Dad yelling at the TV on Monday nights, and going to games with my Dad and Gramps and Uncles. It was a thing. Now they are gone, and I don't waste a perfectly good afternoon in front of the tube, I prefer to go surf swim or dive and watch the highlights later.

We've had good to epic Super Bowl swells in years past, I think it will be maybe cleanish and knee to thigh hi this year. The party starts at dusk, feeding time on land and sea. I'll be rooting to see Brady get hit hard, some funny commercials, and a good game,

Hoping for some more ref shenanigans we can all debate during the entire offseason.

 

I got into surfing for the chicks.

And because being in the water was the only time my allergies didn't bother me. I remember riding my bike to the beach as a grom thinking how I couldn't wait to get into the water to feel "normal" again. Then I'd spend all day in the suds, watching the surfers and thought, "that looks like fun... and the hot chicks all really dig those guys!"

Where I was a teen, PR, only the skanks got into surfing.
The hotties were all the catholic school girls, they were so repressed that dating them was a sure thing. Of course, you just had to make sure moms did not want to come along as chaperones....and I kid you not.
