Last year, while he was still under contract, he stated that he was happy to stay in Philly.

This year, after pulling Philly's bacon from the fire (again), at the end of his contract, he has stated that he would like to be a starter.

Last year, Foles might not have been as popular as he is this year. He's proven to everyone that he can win.

He just increased his value. But will someone else pay him $20 million or more?

 

Yeah. I personally like Foles. I agree with you DP, about keeping drama away and being a team player. But he also was about to or did quit football. So i don't know, but the possibility of it being real seemed more believable then of it was another guy. That was last year, after this year it's a whole other story like kid said

Reports in these parts are indicating the Eagles are gonna Franchise him in an attempt to get something of value instead of letting him walk outright. He may ask for 5 million over his buy out. So now, the cost for Big D!ck Nick is 25 million. If the Eagles franchise him and no one bites, they are on the hook for 25 million. Not good for a team sitting 20 million over the cap.

 

Wow I forgot about the whole "franchise" option. That's a game changer.

Somebody needs a starter. Trade him for a good backup and maybe another player who upgrades a current position. Maybe toss in some cash to sweeten the deal and lighten the load of Foles' contract.

Which brings up a bigger problem. There is no way the NFLPA is gonna sign off on this "franchise" designation again when the next bargaining agreement comes up, and I doubt that the owners are gonna give it up without a big fight.

I don't know when the current contract expires but I see a lockout in the future.

Franchising seems to be getting challenged a lot right now, but Foles seems to be a professional and won't sit out like some other babies. But I wouldn't blame him for being pissed.

 

I don't know, KR, $25M for a season is lot of coin. Cousins was franchised 2x by the skins and made out well. Foles is in a good position, IMHO.

Although being franchised may be a problem for players in other positions / scenarios, in this instance it seems to be working for him.

 

The big difference is that Cousins was starting.

I get little to no info on the Eagles over here, so I don't know the situation there real well. But I'm a big Sproles fan lol.

But Foles seems like a class act, I'm sure if they franchise him he'll be professional about it. And you're right, either way he's gonna make a lot of money. He doesn't seem to care much about the money tho, he really just wants to start for a team.

Just wondering, I'm not sure I've seen a player with an option year being franchised before. Is that legal lol

 

It's all the sports radio is talking about around here. Sixers just signed some guy (I don't follow NBA so I don't know who), Phillies are in the market for Harper and Machado (not Rob, Manny), and pitchers and catchers report in a couple weeks. But no, it's all Foles, Foles, and Foles.

People actually wait on hold for like an hour just to get on the air to voice their opinions on Wentz or Foles. It's not gay, it's insane.

 

Sounds like Philly has mixed feelings about Wentz being able to be the franchise player they envisioned, but concerned about his injury history. I would be too.

Also sounds like the fans are all in on Foles. I really like the guy and have followed him since his PAC 12 days. This is a guy who not only throws for very high completion rates, but can beat you downfield as well.

All things considered, he's been every bit as good as Wentz. Maybe better. He's the guy that got them their rings. Interesting dilemma.

Back in the day, the Seahawks had just spent big money going after Matt Flynn (Rodgers' backup in GB) in free agency. We also drafted his presumed backup in the 3rd round, some unknown kid named Russell Wilson.

Flynn didn't even start a game, and the rest is history.

Man, Harper and Machado lol. Pick your freaking poison. Harper is a narcissist but Machado is a straight up dog. I guess if you're the Yankees or the Dodgers, either or both of these guys could fit on a team that buys their championships. Both great players, but not "winners". Selfish. Baseball, more than any other sport, relies on chemistry. You need a straw that stirs the drink, not a chemical explosion. Imho, both those guys bring bad juju to a clubhouse.

I'm usually excited for spring training, but Seattle has been a complete sh1t show during the offseason. I don't even recognize 3/4 of the roster.

I'm fully expecting Willie Mays Hayes to start in center for us this year

seriously this is what my team is gonna look like this year, except Cerrano will be played by Edwin Encarnacion.

All they did was a huge contract dump and replace them with scabs and washed-out 28-year old "prospects". Our GM Jerry DiPuto is on record saying that "we're not rebuilding, we're reimagining".
