Pretty sure that board is a foam blackball beater. Guys over 6' and 180 lbs might find a 4'10" too small, but those boards got a lot of float.

I've had a passing interest in the 5'8" Sushi, would like to give that thing a go. Seems to me that there was an old thread here covering this subject but I can't find it.

anyways, I say whatever floats your boat. I'm about riding anything and having fun, unless it looks like one of Roy's Whale Penises or paddling an SUP out to the surfer's lineup.

    1) No shit Dick Tracy. And BTW, the fat little boards are no better than a cork--they suck and under perform--every brand. Go ahead, take one out a Tres Palmas when it is 15ft+.

    2) You best re-read my post-- if you believe that older surfers aren't reluctant to go up to long boards, then you are not living on the planet Earth. And the reluctance is due to pride, so in order to remain relevant, a.k.a. "cool", they continue trying to ride corky fat shortboards. That is especially true with surfers who started later in life, "mid-life" crisis type of guys. It is human behavior, especially in males. I see it here all the time, every day. Now, that all was worse 10-15 years ago when shorties came in full blast, but it still remains existent in todays surfer culture. As a supportive fact, did not someone post an ad for a corky shortboard for pool paddling to exercise paddling muscles? That is for older guys that do not surf much- I doubt any young turk would be seen dead with that thing.

Size doesn't much matter. Age does. But when you get past age 60, your size will really matter. How old are you now??

Good luck. Hope you make it. Yoga will help. Martial arts?? I have no idea, but it is exercise. I go to the gym 3X a week, lift weights (lots of reps, lower weights) - that has worked for me, especially for endurance.

I get what you are saying but there is a difference between longboarding out of necessity versus choice.

Again, makes no difference what others ride. I am actually younger than both of you (47) but as I said I've been longboarding/big board surfing since I was a pup.

Boarts are like women. Have as many as you can while you can. Variety is the spice of life.

I can see that, but, as I have been a "one-woman" man for 47 years now, I can see Smitty point as well.

That’s why I said “while you can” lol. Once married that changes, but hopefully before you married you sampled as many items from the menu as you could before your final selection.

Seems i struck a nerve. What barry? You can be condescending but none else can? It's all in good fun. Don't let it bother you.

But question...... is 15ft tres palmas normal conditions? Who said they ride those there? Diffrent waves, diffrent style boards. Say yeah, no one's riding it in 15ft anywhere. Here's more news for you, guys on this forum aren't surfing 15ft on the regular. Shocker again. I know.

And why do they suck? Really serious question. Who cares about brand. I know you have issues with the whole surf industry, and i agree with you on that. But there's no name brand guys shaping boards to. Why do they suck? Have you ridden them or is this just your opinion on the surf industry? Do they suck because YOU can't ride them? Or because they don't fit your style? What about guys who can surf them and fits there style? What do you see that makes them suck?

I have a 5'2 mini sims and a longboard. I used to only ride the LB but id prefer somthing that i can do some turns with in smaller weaker surf. The 5'2 works great. Low rocker and wide so paddles great. I keep up with if not fly by guys on LBs. And when i get out ahead of the wave i can pull a tighter cutback to get back into the pocket and keep gliding. Fits into the curve of the wave better. Im talking smaller weak waves ofcourse. Not 15ft tres. By the way, mr.b came to my local break over the summer. It was small. He rode a LB, i rode the 5'2. With the steep drop and small face his board was very difficult to "fit" the wave. I had no problem.

And 2, as far as age. Im sure there are older guys who don't want to "give in" to a LB. Due to pride. Sure. Some. I get that your older and im not, but i DO in fact have eyes and see the world around me. I Know plenty of guys 60+ riding shortboards and killing it still. Surfing better than me at half the age. Pretty sure they do it because that's how they like to surf and can still do it.

If you can't at your age, that's fine. No problem. But judging based off what people ride is ridiculous. You keep bringing up "cool". Yet your the one who seems to be acting that way. No one here seems to care what anyone rides except you.

I don't care what you think. I really don't and I'm really not upset. Im just talking to you how you talk to others. But you'r quite hypocritical. In that someone whos trying to be "cool" would probably let the guys riding bigger boards know there not "cool" for riding those boards. Yet that's exactly what your doing. Therefore im willing to participate in some banter

You have me 100% wrong. I don't give a shit about cool. And I have ridden them. One cannot bury a rail with a small corky as one can with a 7'ft thruster. Once out of the learners wave size, that becomes important.
I only mention that 95% of others do give a damn about being cool, big time. They want to fit in with the younger generation, most of whom would not touch a longboard--they think it carries AIDS.
You are 35?? Wait another 30. You will agree with me then.
As for my age, I can still ride the very small ones and do very well with them, but they are shitty riding boards--one gains NOTHING performance wise going way too small. The shaping trend in surfing is now reversing itself to midsize boards (adjusted to body size). Nobody is riding dovetailed fishes anymore. Surf shops don't even carry them anymore, at least not around here. Boards such as Firewire (sp/name?) are fast disappearing from the lineups.
