I'd argue you're doing it wrong... but, as they say, "to eats his own."

Yes longboard, fish, thruster, whatever the wave calls for. Length isn't as much of a defining factor anymore. Anyway, I got this used and it looks very similar to the Original board posted here...same shaper kinetic....goes amazing....maybe second favorite board I've ever had. Weird channel on bottom don't know what it does but goes great. 5'10". Hope everybody gets some waves this week. Screenshot_20190216-100012.png Screenshot_20190216-100409.png

That's a Venturi bottom. You can argue the theory either way. But if it works... it works!

I completly agree with this. I went from SBs to a LB exclusively for quite some time. When i finally got back on a SB i felt so much better. Like i finally had the skill to ride a SB the way they were meant to be ridden. Then i got so into it that now i primarily ride SBs again. But that's because i have 10 or 11 boards.... and i always find one that works. Iv said this so many times. The choice between SB or LB has nothing to do with size like many people imply. I personally prefer the LB in bigger stuff. But at the end of the day, they are two completly different styles. It's a mood thing. How do you want to surf the wave thing.

I totally just got off track there. This was what i meant to say to you DP. Try a single fin SB. Seriously. Very similar to the LB in the way that it makes your standard SBing progress. It really makes you read the wave more. Anticipate what it'll do. For instance, if i ride my 5'7 i can see a section and just throw the board up into the lip. It's so responsive. With a single fin you really have to anticipate it and set it up much more. Way less responsive. It's so much harder to surf how you would a standard thruster. Then once you get your timing right on the single, go back to thruster. It'll take a bit to get used to the responsiveness, but in the end your timing on those turns will be crisp. At least that's what iv found.

You know, it's not only SB or LB. You got thrusters, quads, twins, twinnzers, bonzers, single fins. They all offer a different feeling. This is why i own 10 or 11 boards haha. So many diffrent feelings under your feet. Keeps you on your toes and improving.

I actually have a 6'3 single fin if anyone is interested. Has a delam but fix that puppy up and it's good to go. Beefy fishy shape but with a round tail. I need to start shedding some boards to make room for more.......i have an addiction

Next boart is a twin fin Retro-Fish w/modern tweaks (in progress, should be done soon), next boart very well may be a single fin SB or a mini Simmons, or another HBSP, or mini-gun, who knows, I got wants, lots of wants.

So I was wondering, how many bass guitars do you have? I know how it goes .. I have a few guitars in my office (+a bass), and couple other scattered about the house.. o_O

    It's sorta the same ...:D

There is a more subtle look-around-you peaceful joy to longboarding, I will admit. I am appreciating this more as I age.

Hahahaha surprisingly i only have 2 basses. BUT i have a whole stock of strings. Im constantly changing from rounds to flats to old flats back to rounds. And pedals. Don't even get me started. I really want another bass actually but i decided i like surfboards more. So iv kept my bass collection very slim and go crazy with strings and pedals to get all diffrent sorts of sounds. I'll literally write a bass line, get the sound im looking for in my head, then mess with pedals and strings for 3 days until i find it.

I had a really nice Washburn sunburst and brand new Peavy bass amp, 18” speaker, a nice Peavy head unit, and DoD combo peddle kit that I gave away for $150 to a music store locally cause I needed to make room for more borts Hahahaha

I got a nice tuner and had the same strings that Peter Steele and the bassist from Limp Bizkit played just so I could play in drop D and lower along with their CDs
Of course, all that went away too... and it was just a hobby anyhoo

Yes.. lots of nuances in dialing the sound that you want (i.e., hear in your head). Well.. since you've demonstrated your bort building skilz in the other tread, maybe you should make your next bass..

    Lots of kits out there:
    https://www.solomusicgear.com/product-category/diy-kits/bass-guitar-kits/

I saw a YouTube of someone who built one of the guitar kits from this site. It looked and sounded great.

And apologies for side jacking this tread... to contribute something tread related, I'll play off professor lbcrew..
The Venturi effect is the reduction in fluid pressure that results when a fluid flows through a constricted section of a pipe. The Venturi effect is named after Giovanni Battista Venturi, an Italian physicist.

I definately can appreciate versatility. For me, the small boards are skatey and I cant get in rythm with the wave. The longer boards allow me to stay in the pocket or with the power of the wave. I truly like the feel of being in the right spot and extracting the most speed possible. I have ridden as short as 6'6" but it was a fun shape. Check turns, glide, staying in the pocket, barrels are what I enjoy most. I did land a single air once when I was like 20. Was cool but just ain't my thing.

I am wondering whether or not I should buy a Gibson ES 335. Blueberry burst.
Playing guitars (not basses, although I did play cello for a few years) is what I do during winter.......up here, winters are long. Too long.

Haha no man. I love to play reggae, because it's really fun as a bass player. Bass heavy. Alot of how i play (in genres outside of reggae) has that reggae feel. More space between notes, that classic reggae or hip hop bounce. So reggae=jamaican=mon over man....bassmon.

I don't know mon i didn't put much thought into it

My favorite bass is a semi hollow body epiphone. Jack casady (Jefferson airplane/hot tuna) signature. Gold. Sounds so sweet with flats. But he based the model off the old gibson hollow bodies he used to play. The first time i saw hot tuna play, he came out with the bass and went right into a bass solo. I was blown away and bought the bass a week later. Didn't eb realize it was his signature model. Point being, Gibsons are pretty sweet, but epiphone (which is owned by or was owned by gibson) puts out some pretty good stuff at a less expensive price tag.

Cassidy, is by far, my favorite bass player..ever!! i saw him play with the Airplane back in 1969. The base playing on Hot Tunas very first album c.1970, acoustic only is one of my favorite albums. of course, I am fan of Jorma Kaukonen as well. Doesn't get much better than them guys......
