Same here man, I stay in Aguadilla whenever I go down (3-4 times a year). Way better than Rincon. It only gets overwhelmingly crowded when sites like surfline promote a big swell or contest. But there are so many nooks when its firing that you can easily find an uncrowded peak somewhere near the known spots.

What dates were u out there? I got back a week ago and surfed all over that area. Might have crossed paths

I was there from Wednesday the 13th through Monday the 18th. If you were out at surfers beach in the morning of thurs, fri, and sat - I was there.

On a separate note about crowds and surfline. Apparently the swell they hyped that I caught the tail end of resulted in some guys death at Marias. According to bobby at mar azul, some inexperienced chick was paddling out in chest high (maybe bigger), and ditched her board when she thought she was gonna take a set wave on the head. Hit the guy paddling out right behind her in the face/head, knocking him out in the process. Guy ended up drowning.

Damn, that is crappy way to go. A dude died at Wildo getting hit in the head by his own LB when I was out there. Not sure of his experience but the coast guard was hovering for hours over the break. There are a lot more deaths that occur than reported out there for sure. Usually it is someone not knowing their limits.

I came back the 11th. That swell was just filtering in but was plenty of fun. Surfers was blown out the whole time but Wildo held up great for me.

Glad you scored. That Isabella area is cool too.

And we all heard about it on surfing sites huh?? Surprising?? NOT!!
In PR, ambulance crews have ZERO training. They cannot revive you. They cannot start an IV line. They do not know how to use paddles. ZERO training.
They are nothing more than an expensive taxi ride to the hospital, where, you will wait your turn no matter what.
    ZERO triage.
    Caveat emptor.

Just thought of something, seeing as how those deaths are "grapevine" information.
Could they possibly both be the same dude?? Both hit on the head, each story states, by a longboard. Rumor mixes the locations?
    Me thinks so.

Yeah man. I mean, i didn't die obviously. But i got hit in the head with my LB on a waist to chest high day. Lost consciousness but only briefly. Doesn't matter how big or small it is, if you get knocked in the head this get serious quick.

Which is why if someone ditched the board.... come on. Ditching is a no no. If you want to ditch when no one is around. Whatever. Your a kook but whatever. But not around people. I get pretty mad at people at my local break for this type of stuff. At times im sure people think I'm overreacting or just being aggro. But after being hit in the head, you realize how quickly things can go south. I swear i get flash backs and hear the "thunk" in my head when i see peoples boards barreling towards me. Hands down my biggest fear in the water

Maybe, the guy in wildo happened right before i arrived for my session. People that were there saw it and were talking about it. Maybe it grapevined to rincon.

I saw the coast guard hovering for awhile but I thought it was for one of the Dominicans trying to sneak over on a wooden boat.

going to PR in a week. kinda surprised SI doesn't have a place on the East side of the island mentioned. At least it appears there should be some surf to be had. Wasn't expecting anything to ride on the southside of the island, but maybe there'll be some time for that too. interesante

FWIW, i talked to multiple people about the surfer dying in Rincon. It was fairly well known; I just quoted Bobby because he was the most reliable source I knew of. People were talking about it all over, so I don't think it was a case of confusing what happened at wildo.

Looking at the chart, there will be plenty of swell for the island (possibly for some south spots too). The wind will be an issue on that east side.

btw, for those of youse going to CR you may want to pick up a supply of Oxa Forte. Its OTC, it's got a nice mellow buzz to it as well as solving your aching knees & sore shoulder blade issues.
About a buck fitty or 2 dollars per depending on where the farmacia is located.

The userface isnt easy, but NOAA wavewatch III has hundreds of forecast output locations along the east coast of PR. Open up the viewer, zoom to a location (the red, yellow, and grey dots - which happen to be coded to forecast rip current levels) click on a point along the coast, open up the box and click on "time series" and open up a forecast plot of nearshore significant wave height, period and direction for the coming week.

though it's not a dedicated "surf" trip, it's on to PR tomorrow. couple nights in Old San Juan, Taste of Rum fest & some scooters to be had. Not sure of what beach, know Aviones is more popular, but may go out to Ocean Park or stop short at Condado Beach. Looks like la Ocho surf shop is best bet. next day, will venture to La Pared beach (hopefully surf shop around) - maybe Selva - then down to Patillas - Inches Beach. Cruising to Arroyo - doubt i'll hit the surf park there - & Salinas before landing at Ponce for their Carnival. Heading back up close to San Juan the next day to go 4 wheeling before boarding our flight. Got a Jeep Wrangler to get us around. if anybody wants to mention any beaches, breaks from San Juan down the East Coast to South Coast - it would be greatly appreciated - PM if necessary. My buddy made some mind warping brownies for the flight and i got a vape cartridge in case we for some reason aren't able to find flower out n about. We're amped, hoping to score on all fronts

Brownies sound amazing about now. Careful trying to score a bag from PR locals though, good way to get murked out in a foreign land.
