Depends how much the cold affects you and how quick it warms p this year. I usually run a 5/4/3 from Late nov - Mid april then switch up to the 3/2 til about mid to late may. then boardies form then til mid oct

For me,All depends , for Sept/Oct board shorts or 3/2 even thou the water is prob the warmest.the air might be kinda cool. Then mid November 5/4/3 till mid April.Waters still cold in March.4/3 April and then the 3/2 until like Mid June .Sometimes even in the summer when we have a southeast wind I might go back to a 3/2 until it warms back up.Bottom line I dont like the cold so your tolerance might be a little better.

yeah this is what a pretty much stick to year after year . I dont even own a spring suit I doubt I ever will either.

But is all varies with water and air temps and how quick they go up. I remember in I think is was 2002 temps got in the high 90's and low 100's in late april . It warmed the water up quick

It really has alot to do with the seasonal migration patterns of the Gulf Stream. You know water temps (usually) are the warmest during the months of August and September, when the Gulf Stream has migrated closest to the eastern seaboard. Some years it hangs around longer in the Fall than others before moving out to sea. Same goes for the spring with the water warming up. I've had to wear a 3/2 into July with water temps in the high 50's to low 60's and I remember back in high school one time surfing hurricane swell in OCNJ in board short and a sping suit later on that day in mid November.

    It all depends. . .

. . . upon your latitude, your attitude, and the thickness of your frigidity. The current surface temperature map (01/16/10) seems to suggest that at this latitude, the only place that it's really cold is right where we are- on the coast. Go offshore a ways, and it's quite balmy in the water temps- but then there's no surf there either.

Thats because of the gulf stream.
