The show on Friday night was awesome. Really talented music and the seafood was sooo dang good, so much to choose from, I went with Cajun Shrimp, Crab cake, and jambalaya.
It's going to be a busy month for live music around here. This Saturday my wife and I are going to the Reggae Rise Up Festival in St. Petersburg at the Vinoy Park. The show will be headlined by Slightly Stupid, plus there is Ziggy Marley, J. Boog, The Movement, Hirie, Arise Roots, Summer Survivors, Method Man & Redman, Through the Roots, Seranation, and Artikal Sound System. There will be two different stages. We have wrist bands that have a chip in them loaded with cash to use at the vendor stations for quick service. Let's get Irie...
Imagine my conservative Catholic mom's reaction when her 12-yar-old son brought home "Leagalize It." Let's just say I got more than a raised eyebrow!
one of my first shows was Redman & Method man, openers for limp bizkit. but yea, was all in on method man. started to fall back into that, was listening to mos def n mobb deep yesterday in the shower. it was glorious
Reggae Rise Up Music Fest was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. From start to finish it was nothing but talented musicians performing live and sounding just like they do in the studio. Sound guys did a great job. We were one of the first people to enter Vinoy Park at Noon when they opened the gates and we stayed till Slightly Stupid played their last song at 10pm. This was the perfect outdoor venue right on the water of Tampa Bay, lots of room to roam, a variety of food vendors covering all the different types of foods, and there were numerous bars spread across the venue and they had hammocks set up every where, lawn games were set up for people to play while drinking in the sun and listening to music. My wife and I grabbed drinks and ate jerk chicken wings and sat and laid in the hammock by the water under a palm tree for the first hour, then we walked back and forth from stage to stage watching every band / group from the front or rear the front of the stage. When one band was finishing their set, the next one was getting started on the other stage. At some point I ate some Mahi Tacos for dinner. My beer of choice was the Bluepoint IPA. Very well done event. Here’s some pics from the day / night. Slightly Stoopid and Scott Woodruff, the singer from Stickfigure
Slightly Stoopid w/Scott Woodruff from Stick Figure and then Don Carlos who pulled out a spliff and lit it on stage and smoked it. He said he started smoking when he was 12, is 66 now and he has never been to the doctor for any reason.
Weather was perfect, a bit warm and sunshine early on but clouds rolled in later and wind kicked up so it was really nice out and it never rained like it was suppose to. I was exhausted by the end and the walk back to the parking garage felt very long and painful but worth it in the end.
The Movement was one of the best performances IMO. I have seen them a few times now and they never disappoint. They bring it with every song, high energy crowd moving stuff for the most part. I like their Sugar Shack sessions but they step it up a notch on the big stage. Sugar Shack actually had a vendor booth setup with some up and coming artists playing. With all the other bands playing on the two main stages I didn't hang around and listen to any of them but I thought it was cool they were there. Hirie was decent, she first came out and sang a couple songs with Arise Roots and then later came back out and did her own set, which we caught some of while we were refueling on drinks / food.
Looking forward to the concert this Sunday. Collie Buddz never disappoint, this would be my 4th time seeing them in the last few years. It's always a party! Throw in some Inner Circle and it should be a good time. "All I want to do is smoke. Drink. And love / F*ck my girl to some reggae" "F'ing Haters"... "Finally, the herbs come around..." "It's the Good Life!" "Sensi-Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilla!"
