Kelly's Florida wave pool nixed by WSL

Makes no difference to me, but sucks for people who were stoked about it.

 

Does this have something to do with climate change ?

 

What would the average Swellie pay for a two hour session in one of those? I’m curious ... the perfect wave, every wave? Go bigger and faster or slower and more mellow by pure choice...

I would have easily spent 1k to have that to myself for two hours. You would get a handful of waves as good as any you've ever had (especially barrels). Same as spending money on a flight and stay in Central America for a week and gambling on the forecast. Guaranteed score there and remember those waves for a lifetime. Be a one time thing for me I think though.

 

Yeah I got a friend that says the same thing about the Waco wave. Except it doesn't cost a grand, and he's planning to go back again.

You ain't gonna find many places in FL where you won't have that kind of soil.

But if they can get past the construction and site challenges, I wouldn't mind a "Waco" type of park, if it's less upfront and maintenance costs that Kelly's wave, I think it'd be cheaper for us normal folks

 

The intermediate wave is $75 for an hour session, which their ad says you can expect at least 7 waves.

My bud sez he caught somewhere around that amount, and it keeps you busy enough to get tired. Keep in mind that he's an old guy lol.

Also said that the "expert" wave which runs about $90/session is quite a bit faster and difficult to keep up with. You don't want to blow too many takeoffs, or get too far behind the pocket because you'll never catch up. And the takeoff takes some getting used to, nothing at all like surfing a real wave.

But he had so much fun, he said he'd like to go back again often...like a regular surf trip. You'll always get good waves and you'll never get skunked.

 

If I had one of those in my back yard, i'd let you fellas come surf for free.

 

If i win the lottery I’ll build one and all Swellies can come free... you at the top of the list Zero.

I told my wife that I’d have places built near a few great surf destinations and one here locally, that would be for family and surfers. Only rules would be respect them, the locals, and leave a picture on the wall as a whose been there kinda thing... I’d be a happy dude.

 

Better not fall on one... that's a six pack of really good beer.

 

Yeah he was pretty insistent that you don’t want to blow any waves, because you’re on the clock and you have to paddle back and wait your next turn
