Here's an example of a well-known person who ran for office. He decided to get things accomplished, small things, and not grandstand with AOC-like hystrionics:

- - spent $5 mln of his own money to keep the animal sanctuary Mission Ranch open when state & fed money was denied
- - disbanded the town council that had denied the right to sell ice cream cones in the town, and allowed shopkeepers to sell ice cream cones again
- - installed more public toilets
- - installed more, and better, access to the beaches for the public
- - expanded the offerings of the local library
- - donated his monthly salary to a local youth center
- - restored accountability to an arrogant, skewed town govt

After two years in public office, at the end of his term, he went back to private life.
