Been singing, playing, listening, learning, studying, teaching and loving music as far back as i can remember.

I'm pretty good on guitar. What is fantastic is when i teach someone and they come back acouple months later blowing my mind with all this creative personal style and kicking ass.
    It's happened a few times.

Peajay keep your pinky on the third fret high g throughout wish you were here, and make sure you get the time change on mother's gonna, then go learn pigs on the wing and fearless, they are all in g.

I've been playing beach fires since high school, acoustic guitar and vocal makes a beach fire, so get off the evilnet and go practice!

Pinky on the g? I'll try. My pinky doesn't cooperate sometimes. I'll look up pigs and fearless. Thanks for the tips

Alright i tried the pinky think won wish you were here. lets just say ill try again.
I gave up after a bit and started the first part of the intro solo. I'll be at that for a bit.
on Mother, are you talking about the change to F? if so i know what you mean.

Also gave Fearless a go for quite a while. One of my faves. the Bb is my weak point. but other than got a pretty simple version including the cool riff. I'll be working on that too.

I've posted it a bunch but lets hear it again.

I use E chords for the Tabs and a lot of times the instructions are in spanish.
on the bottom f the riff tab it says "faca um slide de volta para o acorde g apos cada riff" that translates to " make a slide back to chord g after each riff"

So I'm practicing guitar and spanish.

Younger PJ spent time in central america. During siesta time he practiced spanish between sessions by watching old sit coms in English with Spanish subtitles. At the bar at night he was known to get loaded and quote Fred Sanford in Spanish. " Tu gran tonto"

I derailed the thread so to get it on track listen to one of the greatest theme songs ever.

Not pigs. Pigs on the wing parts 1 and 2.

Yeah pinky you can't play anything without it. I even clamp my thumb over the low e at times for better freedom on bass parts.

Use all 4 fingers and your life will change forever.
You cannot possibly play mother or wish you were here correctly without your pinky up high, to free up your other fingers for gilmour's lower picking parts. You are gonna have to work at strengthening the weakest finger. If i can do it so can you.

When i began 45 years ago i didn't use my pinky, either. Then i corrected it.
Now i have this technique where i use all 5. It's like cheatin.'

Totally impossible. Your hand doesn't barely move throughout. Pinky on the 3rd fret g of the high e string.

Yes the change to f mama's gonna moves into 6 and you have to really hit on the 1 or meaning the downbeat but a little less emphasis on the 4 which is more like a secondary, mellower downbeat.
I mean that song is so much restrained intensity throughout.

On fearless it's rock music so you have to bar the b flat.

Yeah well i heard an astounding jazz bassist who said to me

"I don't know if you have to have talent. I think you just have to like to sit in a room by yourself for a really long time."

    Andy Warhol said it's work.

999 out of a thousand play wish you were here wrong.
It's really easy but only if you can really play.
It is david gilmour, after all.

You have to have good technique.
And that takes a really long time.

When lou reed was quite old he said
"I'm still trying to get a really good d chord."

I had the advantage learning when i did.
No dvr, no video games, no google, no facebook, no twitter, no instagram, no stupid phones, no texting, no computers, no evilnet, no freakin' guitar tabs.

We just kept picking up the needle off the record and keep listening over and over, trying to play it, trying to get it and then show each other in person with our guitars.

And sit alone for endless hours, days, months, years.
    And it really worked.

There's a lot of 3rd rate hacks out there calling themselves musicians but they can't really play, sing or write songs but people are buying it.

    You guys get to work!

    True story, dudes.
Some young teen once disappeared into his room with a guitar for a year and when he came out he was eric clapton.

Standards are at an embarrassing alltime low these days, boys, so keep increasing your practice and make it stop.

When a student asks me how to play guitar i tell them first unplug everything and throw it in the garbage.

At the college they used to say

"What's the hardest part about being a musician?

Taking the instrument out of the case."

Guitar is an extremely difficult instrument.
But if you can surf, then you have what it takes.

You just have to want it.

    Go For It!

Anybody ever get stuck in a bob seager vortex? I know its just basic chords once you get the rythem down but you can sure rock out either on electric or acuastic
