Nice! Not familiar with the Washout's parking situation, but I try and look for free street parking whenever possible. Even if I have to walk a couple blocks. I hate meters, for the mere fact that unless I'm on a schedule, when I get to a spot to surf, I don't know how long I'm gonna be there for. And I'm not gonna pay for 2 hours worth, when I might get out after a half hour or it might be ****ty conditions. And if I only wanna pay for 2 hours, I might wanna stay for 4 hours and I don't wanna have to walk back to feed the meter in the middle of a session! **** that!
When I go Wilmington I can find free parking up on Topsail Island, Wrightsville Beach prices have gotten outrageous.
This a bit cynical, but I don't take people surfing. So often someone I work with or an acquaintance learns about my #1 pastime they say "YoU CoUlD TeAcH mE hOw tO SuRf", like I would actually be interested in doing that. Sure, I want to spend my precious water time keeping an eye on some fool who thought they were going to "get pitted" on their first time out. Yeah right. If they asked me today would I direct them to the nearest Costco.
