Gosh I wish that was true for me. It makes me work even harder though, so that I can get into good colleges and have options.

There you go, believe me if there was swell every day here most of us would be in the water every morning, I know I would.

We still have winter, and spring usually produces allot of side shore slop that you can have some fun on.

to be quite honest I just don't feel like dealing with 36 degree water temps. my bone marrow is frozen.

Very good point. I mean, in SD, the crowds go from 100% in the summer/fall to about 30% in the winter, and the water only drops to 57 out here. That and a lot bigger surf is enough to keep about 80% of surfers out here out of the water....

So I would only venture to guess what % of "surfers", and I use that term loosely, actually stay out all winter. I would bet that OC MD goes from 100% in august, to about 5-7% in Jan/Feb right? I mean, the beaches are crazy packed all summer, but seriously, who else besides hard core entuhusiasts would ever TOUCH water that is 37 degrees. I mean, like all of you, I WOULD do it, but I would not be happy about it. You gotta do what you gotta do, but most people can't find any logic behind going out to their car when the air is in the 20s much less, get in 37 degree water with 20 degree air....

I mean, it does sound like a pretty crazy thing to do right?

So anyway, people who aren't planning on surfing or going to the beach all winter, probably aren't chceking in on this site...

I mean, I like to snowboard up at big bear etc in the winter, but I only go to snowbaording forums like right before I go to the mountains. I don't sit on snowboarding websites in the summer. Out of site, out of mind... Same concept I guess

"i just cant wait for it to get alittle warmer cause no money and all i got is a 4/3 right now",..

Did you look into getting one of those heat retaining hot skins, where it under the 4/3; On a sunny day with fairly lite winds, and a nice swell that will keep you moving, you might just be ok for a couple of hours, its got to be a good 4/3 though.

The water temps seemed to have moderated, or maybe we are just getting use to it,..again.

I had to get a hot skin to augment my one year old 5/3 thats crapping out already. I also got some epoxy goo from the hardware store and painted or filled two pair of used gloves, saved some money and they worked great this last swell. My 6/5/4 boots are still holding strong, very warm. I am going to get a new 5/4/3 for next year, (if I am still around) since I am getting older and also feel the cold on the bones a little differently now. I guess the point you could make for this is if you got the right gear, and can handle your face freezing on duck dives, you really can go out and score invigorating winter swells.

"but most people can't find any logic behind going out to their car when the air is in the 20s much less, get in 37 degree water with 20 degree air...."

Even most of the core are not going to either, unless the conditions are right. If it is proper, you know that once you start dropping in and getting the goods, it kind of warms up some.

    Off season rules.

We always knew it was Spring when we'd be sitting out there in 4/3s, boots, gloves and hoods and some goon would come paddling out in only a fullsuit....and last about 20 minutes.

god yeah, i find myself on this site more times a day than any other site. also i like the winter because of the lack of kooks and such, but i hate february... its so damn cold. im not a cold person, and i cant take the cold very well so its tough to work it out during these weeks. anyone know what i can do to make my 5/3 warmer? i think someone mentioned a heat thingy, not too sure what that is tho; never seen it.

i actually hit this site up much more in the winter than summer cause im here in philly for school in the winter and cant wander over to the beach like in the summer. plus, i like these forums when the BS is gone
