This is a newly created forum for all discussions regarding surf travel. As with the other newly created forums, we like the idea of organizing the discussion into relevant forums, so that it is easy for users down the line to search for topics of interest. So, here you might talk about places to stay on your next surf trip to Central America, or maybe where to rent surfboards in Puerto Rico. Any and all surf travel talk flies here...
Headed to dominican republic this a.m from Orlando to Miami to d.r. Looks like ill be getting waves. Its my first trip there so I'm pretty optimistic. No covid test required and the rooms are pretty cheap. Food looks inexpensive and ima rent a few boards over the next 4 days. Its a Short trip but its a new experience.
Yeah I'm curious about DR too. Know a handful of Canucks that vacationed there but don't surf. I've seen a couple of Expedia reviews that state that straying too far from the tourist zones can get sketchy. But hell, that could describe almost any surf destination nowadays
Yea, I mean just to start I have reservations about not being separated from Haiti by an ocean. Does Jamaica get surf?
yes, on the south coast, but all of the same safety issues in the non -touristy areas and the surf is less consistent than DR. Its caribbean wind swell not north atlantic groundswell like DR gets. Google spots in Jamaica called Zoo and Lighthouse. Big lefts.
Yeah the biggest problem with surf travel is that most of the best uncrowded surf tends to happen in 3rd World ghettos lol. Looks like tropical paradise but the fiscal realities are quite different. Things can go sideways once you leave the comfort of your room at the Marriott. Being low-key and knowing language and customs can help a lot. YMMV
What’s up Everyone, Going to be flying into São Paulo and taking a drive to the coast at the end of March. Anyone have experience surfing in the state of São Paulo?
Well the border is closed so unless you quarantine for 2 weeks upon arrival you won't be surfing much. Anyway. Good luck with your travel
I appreciate the fair warning; land and sea borders are closed, air remains open. No mention of quarantine on any of the embassy’s sites, only upon returning to the states.
Made a surf trip to DR bout 5 years ago. Stayed and surfed in Cabarete in Feb timeframe. We found good consistent conditions with some stand out days. All reefs and crazy clear water. Not as good as PR, but definitely good with a chill vibe and no crowd hassles. Cabarete is a touristy cool town, never felt unsafe. Would recommend.
