What's Your Next Surf Trip Going to Be?

It was chasing the aforementioned talent that got me here.

 

Surf is good at the pier. Park at Taft and walk south its free there or head to Jerry smaller but cleaner. Today was great

 

You luck SOB. There's no finer scallop in the world.

 

My favorites too, my buddy is a scalloper on the island, I make sure I connect before the season closes in March, usually try to get 10 pounds or so

 

When does the season start? When I make a trip up north I'm going to make a point to try these.

Down here later season is best but I know the water stays pretty damn cold up there ha

 

I think November but could be wrong. I know it ends the last day of March. You can buy them frozen on the Island year round, but are usually over 20 bucks a pound in the off season, right now they are 13 right out of the shanties. They are definitely sweeter than others I've had. If you make it up my way feel free to shoot me a msg.

 

Just fyi "socialism" gives you the legal right to access most surf spots.

when most SoCal beaches were closed to even sand pedestrians for many weeks last spring and summer, that was the result of the CA socialist empire. it wasn’t to a level like that in many other coastal locations nationwide.

prove your point with backup. as it stands now, you furthered a case against yourself.

 

Ever had the Peconic Bay scallops? A close second, but just as expensive. Try them if you ever come across them.

 

I haven't but now you have me curious, if I see any at market or on a menu I will def give them a go. Scallops have gotten more popular with local fisherman, the price of squid got so low folks were looking for alternatives.

 

I live in one of the most liberal states in the nation, and we have some of the most restrictive beach access laws in the nation. Much is due to tribal land, but the largest portion is at the state level.

My point is that a lot of beaches, shore access points, boat ramps, are state or town-owned and operated. Thus, open to the public and not private real estate development. Am I missing the concept of that or are you?


PS- I wore a 6/5/4 yesterday because it was 10 degrees. Hope thats okay by you.

 

Booked Puerto Rico. Crossing fingers regarding travelling, testing and the hassles involved. Airline tickets were dirt cheap and rented a killer condo near the marina in Rincon for $90 a day. Condo has free cancellation up until the day before arrival so I feel pretty comfortable about that. Praying for surf. Got kind of skunked down there last winter.

Just freedive. Stuff your gear in your board bag. Tres Palmas is amazing on a clear, flat day. Like an elkhorn coral forest. Head over to Los Tubos park near Dorado for another deep reef that holds GIGANTIC fish. (And by "deep" I mean 15')

 

Rented gear a couple of days last year and explored Tres. Its very cool. Tons of little fish.

 

getting up with the guys tonight to discuss another possible trip in the winter. We got old San Diego credits to burn. Got news my bro and his fam is heading to West Palm Beach mid March, so possibility of surfing there may come into juicy fruition. Places in mind otherwise, include CR, PR (prices are way high for some reason - except out of Orlando), El Salvador, San Diego, St Thomas/St Martin. Hopefully, we find something worthy

Booked! Last wknd of March. Liberia, CR. Short wknd, so maybe Mal Pais out of question for de tour de Nicoya but we shouldn't be at each others throats neither. Likely camping it at Nosara

 

When you get to Liberia do you walk out front and take the bus or do you rent? I've always used the bus system..its super reliable and cheap a.f. gotta use their money though. Where you gonna stay? Airbnb? Any surf location you prefer? What about return covid test?
