Does "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" qualify? I thought both movie and book were classic. Got turned on to the book after reading Mr. Thompson's Hells Angels stuff.

Yes! I stumbled upon this move one night many years ago. After watching Bill Murray as HST it made Fear and Loathing almost unwatchable. Bill Murray made Johnny Depp look like a try-hard.
