This summer I am fortunate enough to study abroad in Europe. While I am there, I'm going to try and catch a couple waves. Anyone know any beaches with decent waves?
France, Spain, Portugal.......... Pick a spot!!! all three countries are littered with amaizing surf spots, culture and hospitality..... South of France (west cost) Anywhere from Brest (cold water all yr) to Basque Country (much warmer water) has everything from points to reefs and all you have to do is get a map and drive!!! Anything within the Mediteranian is mostly trade swell and poor quality. A good wetsuit is a must and I will advise you to buy all your equipment in the USA because it is expensive as hell if you buy it in Europe. Good luck with school and the surf.
You lucky bastard! I agree with France, Portugal, and Spain. Surfing Europe is like awesomeness overload.
I did a week in France in Biarritz and got great surf. The area is beautiful, LOTS of surf spots, food is healthy and excellent, excellent night life... gotta go.
I went to Ireland and caught it really good a few years back. Super cool locals too. Check out bundoran in donegal county if you get a chance. Ireland is sick.
When are you going to be over there? I'm going to be in France mid-July and would love to check out the right side of the atlantic. I'd be willing to spit a rental car with you. Also, have you seen the standing wave in Munich? Check it out, it's supposed to be pretty sweet, angry locals though I've heard. Cheers! gdub
I'll be there from may till the first week of July. I'll be staying in Luxembourg but will be traveling every weekend. I haven't seen the standing wave in Munich, but I'll have to check it out.
may-july is pretty flat in europe. Ideally, you would want to be there for Sept-Nov. I'm not saying you won't find waves, it will just be more inconsistent.
I was there a year and a half ago. F*cking love Europe and you will too. edit - where are my photos? edit - you can see them in the Gallery
That wasn't me, but the guys I talked to all owned their gear. They said you probably couldn't rent anywhere because the city didn't want tourists getting all amped up and breaking their necks. Considering all the wonderful beer that flows in that city, I can see what they mean.
