Whens the last time you guys have had waves down in wrightsvill beach im headed down their for college next year and it has seemed like you guys dont get many head + days
We get ridable waves waves almost everyday, you just gotta know where and when to go. Like today was pretty much unrideable crap at c - street, but at crystal pier it was almost twice the size and a little cleaner, I was able to have fun on my shortboard! Surprise, even though the report says minimum surf. But yeah, head high days are extremely rare for us. Probably 3 - 4 times of year, and that's almost exaggerating, and then GLASSY head-high days, once a year, tops. The problem is that with our short period swells, is that as soon as the wind turns off shore (usually at 2 am), the waves drop in size and go from head-knee in one day. But during the fall the surf is pretty consistent with a lot of chest high days at least every week, so give and take. Plus, the most restriction that wrightsville has is surf zones in the summer, and leas all-year, but if it's a red flag day (aka good waves) no surf zones! So it's not too bad.
Forecast not always right I find the waves are always bigger than the forecast. In Miami I found the opposite. When It says it is flat here we can have 3 foot fun waves. In Miami the forecast could be for wast high and it will be like a lake; not even a shore break. Also on some of the messy days like today if you keep checking you may find a time when it gets to be a lot of fun. Today I felt it was too messy until very late and then it was still a bit sloppy but I caught a few long lines.
Who cares when we have waves, UNCW has tons of hot poon running around....worry more about poon than waves. They will come.
Thats kind of a bummer but i guess the banks are not too far away for when worthwhile swells come through.. How long is the trip to Buxton if you take the ferry? and honestly ill take head high shacks over poon any day... but that dosent hurt either
The drive takes up to 6 hours, the ferries are a little slower but i'd imagine they make trip at least feel faster.
The past two years have been the worst since I've lived here (for 6 yrs)...Some seasons are on point and others just seem to suck (like month long flat spells). As mentioned before there's a lot to do like girls, fish, boating etc...The banks are almost always worth the drive, and it doesn't take 6 hours to get there... Trust me you'll love it down here, but sometimes we have to wait for waves...but a chest plus day at certain spots south of wb can be some of the funnest sessions possible, just draining and rippable, where as wb is always gutless, crowded, bro pro'd out, and its 2 bucks an hour for flipping parking...head south and do a little searching
Yes, the drive is always worth it, but it's still pretty long.... bring your Ipod and your least annoyying friends
so i have heard... something about a long paddle.. Do you think bringing the whip is a good idea or na
dude you wanna make a run up there sometime this august? like you me, pem. and we camp out and we'll take my car and everyone just throw in money for gas.
