This oil spill makes me sick! And they want to build these oil rigs all up and down the East Coast, and ruin our beaches all in the name of greed...Stand Up! Go to oceana.org and scroll down on left side under Highlights, click on tell Obama & Ken Salazar we will not stand for this...comments close on May 3rd...Do It!
sure, it's 2010...all the big oil companies have been in bed with politicians and presidents, money seems to be the only way anything gets done in Congress, therefore making our constitution null and void...anyone remember "for the people, by the people"...yeah, well that's dead, it's more like "for the rich, **** the poor"...tax dollars wasted to go to war against countries for no real reason, but personal vendettas...why hasn't our tax dollars been used to create alternative fuels, to make us less dependent on oil...hey, I'm no scholar, nor a tree hugger, but if you can't see that this is all about greed and money for big oil than you are blind...Obama has been pushed to get on board with this bill by Republicans, greedy Republicans who give two ****s about me or you....accidents do happen, agreed, but that doesn't make everything better...this oil spill is gonna affect this country negatively for years to come...I don't understand how someone who claims to love the ocean could be onboard with this bull****...when your paddling through oil slicks...I want you to tell me that you were right!
What did I say I'm on board with? I just asked you what was greedy. I don't see a company providing a product that is in high demand (you use it, I guarantee you) as greedy. The rig explosion sucks, I'll give you that, but accidents happen. If you have an alternative, then promote it and make yourself and others wealthy in the process. If you don't, well, it's pretty easy to point fingers.
your right, it is easy to point fingers...it just really pisses me off that these ****heads want to build these damn oil rigs on our coast, I would rather see us give the damn money to the Arabs than potentially ruin our ocean and beaches.
now that sounds more reasonable then that rant about going off on republicans/greed and the nonsense. i think they've gotta be way more careful about these rigs also, but i think we should still drill
yeah like maybe require rigs off US coasts to have the remotely controlled shutoff valves that Norway, Venezuela, Brazil require so the valve can be closed if the rig is damaged. not sure why we allow BP to drill off our coast using less safe methods than other countries would.
that would be a good start....looks like it took this disaster to realize what a big mistake they were about to make... http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/04/30/oil-spill-may-threaten-offshore-drilling-plans/
I doubt those plans will be shelved for long especially if they find big deposits off our coast. <<puts on tinfoil hat>> the timing of that rig fire in the gulf is awfully close to Osama's announcement for east coast drilling.........
Its a possibility that the oil might come up to the east coast. Some of you brothers might change your tune when you cannot surf anymore.
seriously man. cut the chicken little crap. it's that kind of stuff that puts people off the environmental movement.
I was wondering when surfers would start talking about this very serious problem we all face. Consider what will happen if it happens off the Virginia coast. right near the gulf stream. very difficult to contain with all the currents and storms on the Atlantic. Not a good scenario. Its almost not a coincidence that the current explosion happened shortly after Obama threw the Reps a bone by llifting a mandate against drilling. Wake up call!
The benefits greatly outweigh the costs in my opinion. But I still think that if they do not contain this, and let a potential amount of 19 milllion gallons of oil into our ocean it is a significant reason to stop this garbage. However, lets face it, were all not millionaires and the economy is crap. Oil is the easiest resource for its cost, we rely on it every day.
Its almost not a coincidence that the current explosion happened shortly after Obama threw the Reps a bone by llifting a mandate against drilling. Wake up call![/QUOTE] "Threw the Reps a bone" is an interesting way to put it. Unfortunately though Obama is the president now and the drill-ban was lifted by him alone. He is the one that broke one of his core campaign promises and needs to be held accaountable as much as that pains the media and his supporters. That said this accident in the Gulf has nothing to do with that decision as that rig has been drilling since 2001.
I always suspected Obama was in bed with the oil companies, I knew it when he said he was going to allow drilling off the east coast. He pretends to be eco friendly, but he is no different than all the rest of the lying politicians. This change business he sold us isn't working out the way I thought...............damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well I'm going to do my part; I told the wife that we're selling all the cars and riding nothing but bikes for now on!!! Oh, and the heat for our house, well we're shutting that off too!!!!! Oh, and we're not eating any goods packaged in plastic, metal, or paper either. Kiko, I hope you're with me man, cause we have to stop this drilling business right now!!!!! I mean who needs energy anyway.................. bla, bla, bla..............
Why is it that when somebody brings attention to an ecological disaster that people, even people who recreate in the ocean, start throwing out the "wacko environmentalist" moniker? This is about a huge ecolgical disaster. It's come about because BP and other oil companies actively lobbied to reduce safety requirements on these oil rigs and now they have an actively flowing well-head in 10,000 feet of water belching oil into the gulf. Here's a link to some aerial photos and a blog by an environmental watchdog (AKA wacko) group. They also got hold of some internal NOAA communications that project a worst case scenario of 2.1 million gallons per day. That's a lot of oil my friends. http://blog.al.com/live/2010/04/deepwater_horizon_secret_memo.html This is a revised "worst-case scenario" pf 2.1 M gallons per day if the well goes totally uncontrolled. Apparently it isn't yet; there are still some impediments to the flow. But sand is being blasted through the pipe and is steadily wearing away the steel. Geez. - j
I dont see how anyone can say that oil companies are not greedy. They would dump oil all over our beaches and not think twice about it because, in general, it does not effect them. Most of the big wigs at these companies have houses at beaches we can only dream of. So I say, if oil is believed to be there, lets drill off of their damn beach first. I know we all use this very product that destroys our environment even after using it. If you do not use it more power to you, cause I damn sure wish I didnt have to. ONE THING I DONT THINK ANY OF YOU REALIZE is just how small of an oil pocket we have off of our coast, especially Natural Gas. There is estimated to be enough Natural Gas to support North Carolina for one year, that is it, and all of you know as well as I know that it aint all going to NC. Our coast will be exploited, and it will benefit NY, CA, and other states whom I could give a s**t about. If this scenario did happen, I do not see much of the profit going to the state of NC, and if it did it will get spent elsewhere and not on our beautiful beaches. What Im trying to say is, we have to protect our beaches, we have a gym in our coastline. Our beaches are beautiful, but extremely fragile. They are not going to be here forever. If we dont act now we will suffer the consequences, and I do not believe it will be a good thing.
