Im going to CR in 2 weeks and im flying into liberia and staying at a place called cafe playa negra. The hotel has thier own pickup from the airport for $95 but i was wondering if anyone knew a cheaper way to get from liberia to playa negra.

You might be able to find a taxi at the airport for cheaper... But, if it was me, I'd prob just stick with the transportation provided by your accommodation, since you know you wont have to worry about anything.

if thats to and from the airport, thats not too bad. Otherwise, it would be cheaper to just catch a cab. might be like $25 each way. are you taking a board?

it's takes about an hour and a half, give or take to get from Liberia to Playa Negra....I didn't see any taxis in the parking lot at the airport when I was there, which was in March...so if you are going to get a taxi, I would recommend finding a taxi company b4 you get there....otherwise I would agree with Micah...pay the $95 and rest easy knowing you won't have to worry about anything...

When I went in January there were about 30 people clamoring to give out rides. It could be a headache and many dont speak english. I would avoid the headache and do it even if it costs you $30 more.

+1 on the rental, especially if your have at least one othe rperson to share it with. You can get a free van to the rental place which is right around the corner from the airport, and grab your rental.

Get one of the little dihatsu 4x4s that look like a roller skate. That way you can get to the surrounding breaks.

I rented a Toyota Prado. It was money! It was Diesel too. I think we filled it up once the whole week. We drove a lot too.

How about a bus that takes you from San Jose Airport to Dominical? Looking to skip car rental if possible. I know some of the roads can be rough out that way

    What's an extra 40 bucks?

Just play it safe and go with the shuttle.
