I'm actually Polish, German, Irish, and a bit French Canadian. So I blend them together and root for my home country.

Well the fact is I've never been to any of those countries. So I have no real reason to root for them.

I'm routing for the U.S. because its my home team but I'll be happy and consider it a success if they just make it out of the 1st round (i.e. don't choke this time around).

I usually route for most of the non-European teams but I do like the Neatherlands for some reason. I've always been a big fan of Brazil and Argentina. I just like the South american style of play better than Europe. Messi and Argentina all the way!

I hope Drogba can play and recover from his broken arm. I'd like to see Ivory Coast upset a few teams.

mexico is reducing their carbon footprint by driving the whole team to south africa in a single minivan.

    refs

Not a fan of the sport, but will watch 'cause they're the best athletes in the game & the spirit is amazing for this event.

However, I have a question for the true aficionados of the game:

Will this game ever get more refs, with the target being to cut down on the dives & the fake injuries & the diva routines by the ballplayers?

Hockey changed & added an official to cut down on the away-from-the-puck crap. As well, the elim of the lines led to less icing calls. Now, the players skate instead of fight all the time. Canada getting their ass kicked by Euro teams that skated & not fighted in the early international matches also helped wake up North American hockey to the changes needed in the game. Much better flow now, and the artistry of the skaters & stick handlers is sick. Much better game now than 20 years ago.

NFL changed, more officials, instant replay, et. al. Plus, the game is different than back when Frank Gifford & those guys played. Athletes are bigger, faster, stronger, more refined in slick techniques. NFL is a better game now than 25 years ago. (Still too many ads during games, though.)

NBA added a ref 'cause there was so much crap going on away from the ball, esp in the paint.

The dives really take away from soccer, for me at least.

Not criticizing the players, but not thrilled with the acting class in every match.

Spain has the best chance to win it all. they won the concaf cup and the olympics. Fernando Torres is easily in the top 5.

I agree they have the best chance, but Torres is top 10 definitely, but it's a stretch putting him, "easily in the top 5".

he's actually 8 on this poll, with Xavi at 5 and andres iniesta at 7. 3 spaniards in the top 10. I mean cmon, top 10 top five is really splitting hairs.

i think christiano rinaldo of protgual is a beast. he's my number 1 over messi.
