yep...i was out this morning & some kook paddled out w/ a diamond-back terrapin on the nose of his board & proceeded to announce how he was saving the sea turtle from dying on the beach...i grabbed the poor thing from him & paddled it back to shore so it could lay it's eggs. the ignorance of people is astonishing!!

 

So far its been OK but I'm in and out early. I did see a guy riding (or trying to ride) a SUP (12') as a surfboard with no paddle or leash. He did stay a good distance away.

 

The whole "kicking him out of the water" statement is a little self righteous if you ask me. You and everyone else would be better off if you just explained to the kid what he did wrong.

Ankle to Knee High

Amazing that East coast measures waves under head high, just say FLAT, who they kidden with ankle to knee high and clean conditions. Well, at least the water is getting toasty.

 

NorC, I lived in San Diego for a while and do remember reports of 1 to 2 feet on south facing beaches and 2 to 3 feet on north facing beaches. So good old Cali measures waves under head high, too my friend.

 

2 sundays ago I was Surfing NW by myself durng the rain storm and soon as the rain stoped like 6 ppl came out 3 of the 6 were ppl is surf this all the time so I was cool with that but this one dude with a carrot top fro showed up with these 2 girls who managed to be in everyones way all the time. One wave I was already up made my bottom turn and on the nose I and here hey I got this and he tried to drop in . Soon as I heard that I walked back stalled in the tail and shot mid way up on the board as I passed him I pushed the nose of his board sending him down the back side of the wave.

Soon as I turned out of the wave I heard Carrot Top scream Mother ****er's Surf here once and they think they own the place . I lost it then I said where were you at all winter ??? I have surf this spot since I was 15 So pack you **** back into you Explorer with PA tags and Beat it !!!!!!. Everyone started laughing there asses of that the guy. Needlesss to say Him and the two girls paddled down a bit after that

I didnt care that I was there by myself and ppl came out . It was someone tried to flex when they didnt know who they were talking too .

 

Ya know, an accidental drop in or two happen. But you are right, it's the a holes who show up once or twice and don't show respect for the locals, that need the adjusting! Next time give them the old flaming bag of poo on his board! Oh, I guess that only works on door steps! LOL

 

Here is my philosophy when someone drops in on you. Tell them what they did, and let it be know that the next time you have an opportunity, your gonna drop in on them. Did this today in Rodanthe. Its pretty fair, and it gives them a little taste of their own medicine. Don't be a **** about it, and don't ask, just announce that given the next opportunity, you will drop on on them.

In my case today, the guy just let me have one of the better sets of the day. At which point there was an unspoken bond that we were even. I guess I should also point out that the guy cut me off and one of the better waves of the day as well.

And while were on the subject. Another thing I kept encountering today was people trying to "paddle around me." Like you will be in perfect position for the next wave, and some dude scrambles to paddle around you to get better position.

In my book this is **** Move. And the correct thing to do is just drop in anyways. If the guy gets huffy puffy and says you cut him off. Tell him he just paddled around you, which doesn't fly. He will know that what he did was wrong...

Now there is some leeway with "paddling around" people. If the set is coming on the horizon, then ya, its all fair game and every is gonna rush to get on the peak. But if its seconds prior, or mid set, and someone blatantly paddles around you... That is when you should drop in on them. Because everyone knows that is No Bueno...

 

if you showed up once or twice, how would u know who was a local and who wasnt?

 

make the assumption that everyone except you is local. it's the easiest way to avoid pissing people off in that situation. give respect, get respect.

 

Schweez, if you go to a different break out of state or whatever, usually you can watch for a little bit and tell the locals from the tourists. njsurfer summed up what I was trying to say: Give respect, get respect. But unfortunately, a lot of people just don't understand that!

 

how is paddling around you a bad move? I've always looked it it like never paddle to the beach side of someone but it's ok to paddle around the sea side.

 

agreed. beach side is like a snaking. although, if the dude is just floating and not going for the wave, it's ok

 

Sounds like a lot of you "locals" are gettin punked, if your tellin a forum about how you told some guy off, you probably didnt! and if your gettin dropped in on and cut off for position that much, then you probably look or surf like a poser....either way you deserve it!
