Are you just repeating my questions? I never claimed to be hardcore. I just like having fun, which is what it should be about.

Nah, just wondering why you would tell someone else to move to have fun for addiction & you mention you wish you could live in the tropics to do all the "fun stuff" you like to do. You made it seem so easy, I was just wondering why you haven't done the same.

I have more fun in the fall & winter when most of the kooks head home & we do get the bigger waves with heavy barrels. I absolutely love warm water & weather, but near flat conditions & crowds for most of that time equals very little fun in the water. So a fair & welcome trade off is colder weather/water & taking trips during the winter.

Because my entire life is not about wave riding and I'm broke(wouldn't spend 500 bucks on a wetsuit that's for sure) and I have family here. I have fun here with the waves we have. He was talking about the only people that are "Real" surfers are the one's that surf in winter. My point was if he was sooooo hardcore and a "real" surfer and soooo dedicated having his whole life revolve around it that he should move to where there's WAAAAAY better surf. That's all.

I ride the occasional swell during the cold water months but for the most part it is not my thing. My 6/4 gets more use out in N. Oregon where the lines are long and the rides are exhausting :) Otherwise, the winter is why the tropics were created - winter swells, tropical waters.

I believe that the point being made is that if a person claims to be so "core to surfing" then that person would pick up and move to a place that offers more consistent good to above average surf. One finds a way and doesn't look for excuses. All other talk is spun in justifying one's decisions for other reasons covered in the foam of "I am core."

There are also plenty of places in the Hawaiian Islands to find uncrowded surf that are superior to the average East Coast day -- take today, e.g., 1-2 foot, if that.

Mike, it seems that you disagree with most everyone on this forum. You call people names, argue about just about anything and are generally a contrarian. This forum is more focused on surfing and less on this kind of bs come the winter when real surfers are still surfing regularly and summer only guys are off doing other things. I'd ask our moderator to ban anybody who insults another poster who simply posted their opinion. :(

    Amen to that!

About a week ago I was out at one of the DelMarVa beaches mostly riding a peak by myself. All things considered the waveriders were relatively spread out. Then this teenager paddles over, snakes around me and paddles like crazy for a wave. He missed it. After he flailed on 9 of 10 waves I said to myself, "To hell with this sh*t." Then I setup right in front of him and took the wave that I wanted and then proceeded to just dog him... he paddled away after about 10 minutes of that. Really stupid behavior if you ask me.

Rod I do that all the time. You just sit right in front of somebody and prevent them from getting anything.

A glimpse into the future of surf crowds - first they come to the beach, next they paddle around and finally they start surfing. This is the beginning of the future:

alot of people cant move. as they have jobs on the east coast and its not that easy to pack up and move cross country and not have a job already lined up somewhere else. and the east coast is trullya lot of peoples lifes. so just stop dissing the east coast or you come on over here to the east side and see what happens when you talk like that at local breaks.

Mikeb AGAIN... I somewhat agree with you. Who the hell cares about localism on the east coast. Its the biggest croc of sh*t. There are little to no consequences for surfing sand bottom overhead waves. On the other hand, I can understand localism at places like Pipe because you can get killed or kill someone being a stupid kook. Secondly, i would have to agree that you dont HAVE to EARN respect but you MUST give it. Who the hell cares what is said on here, stop preaching it an live it. I can tell you the vibe in Monmouth county is horrible. Greedy, self absorbed idiots. Who cares if you can bust an alley oop if you dont give a wave or two to the beginner with ettiquite, who's the real kook? What does that teach them, its ok to paddle around when u get to a certain level, give me a break. If half of the people did half of what they write we wouldnt be discussing "kooks" but rather would be having better more worth while sessions. Trust me, I know people will write I'm a kook or some non sense but unlike most of you trolls, in the water....I let my surfing do the talking :p

People can move if it is really surfing that is priority number one. It is all about personal choices and priorities. And that is fine - folks should just be upfront about their choices and not try to rationalize how "core" they are because they duke it out with the cold waves of winter or choose to regularly ride crappy surf relative to other places around the world. The waves can get very nice in the Mid-Atlantic, but the operative word is "can." Freedom of choice. Respect it!
