Hey guys I was wondering how many longboarders are here. i never got into the shortboards ( bc i could never get up on them) and always had more fun on longboards......... if so what boards do you have and shapers.......
boards Hells yeah to longboards! I've ridden boards from 9'6" to 6'3" I've definitely enjoyed riding shorter boards, but for me, there's something about a longboard I really dig. I have a 9'2" Hawaiian Pro Designs (Takayama design) In the Pink shaped by Tommy Maus in Oceanside. sweet board. polyester. Primarily a nose rider, but a heavy board with some ass behind it. Also have a 9'2" Stewart ESP Epoxy Board that is light, fast and maneuverable. Love it. Super light and a wave catcher. This replaced a 9 0 Colin McPhillips shape that I had a blast on. It had lot's of nose rocker, a pulled back tail and a big belly and nose. This board was the thinnest longboard I've ever seen, yet would nose ride and rip. Last board in the lb quiver is a Ted Kearns/ Gale Force Glass hp longboard shaped in OBX. Ted has moved on to Hawaii, but his boards are sweet. Even though I broke this board and had it repaired, I love to ride it, very quick, turns on a dime and nose rides pretty sweet. I know, there was a longboard thread just about a month ago, but hey, it's fun to share about our quivers.
I log for the most part but I have a cpl shortboards too. 9'6 Bing NR2 9'10 Bing Elevator. 10'0 Cooperfish 9'4 Hobie (all beat up and brown it was the first board I ever surfed on ) I plan on getting a cpl more logs this winter and I wanna get a 7'0 hull
roll call 9'6 Robert August What I Ride (2 of these) 9'6 Todd Proctor custom-made squash tail 9'2" Channel Islands pintail (no idea of model name) 8'2 7-S quad fin 7'8 Bing (no idea of model name; my first board from when I started in 1979) I very much want to purchase a CI Water Hog....friend of mine has ridden 2 diff sizes of this stick (he lives in Hawaii) & raves about it's superb wave-catching chops & above-average maneuverability / speed in the water. Also have 6'8 Claude Codgen from 1979. A beauty. But not a log...
walden/7-s popouts and merrick longboard oxymoron. i see non-longboards listed,7'0" hull,i though a true longboard must be at least 9'0" and not a popout and not an al merrick decal on it...
10' Infinity Cluster V. I've surfed it from knee high to nearly double overhead and it does it all well
Longboards are for chicks and old dudes... Just kidding I have a 9'0 Marty Keesacker round pin tanker style LB for super summer time smallness. I have ridden an Austin soul glide model and want to get one...pretty awesome... even I can noseride on it.
Interesting set of 'surfboard rules' you've concocted there. Why do you believe that the CI sticker is verboten on a longboard...? Or are you saying that a CI sticker transplanted to a popout is verboten? Clarification would be interesting.
al merrick shapes longboards like duke kahanamoku shapes high performance thrusters. walden and 7s are lame popouts. i always heard a true longboard must be at least 9'0"
yeah it's all I ride I tried short boarding and just couldn't get into it. Even retro fishes just didn't work out for me anyhow here they are longest to shortest 10.4 Austin Blunt - amazing it's a floating sidewalk I can catch an ankle high ripple on it. 9.9 Austin Custom 4+1 diamond tail – its kind based on his Signature line, but has different rails. tail, glassing, and a little bit of a belly. It’s slick; turns great, can walk it and ride the nose. Its really becoming my got to board 9. Cooperfish The Device – just got it, but it’s a nose riding machine. 9.8 Tyler Wingnose – Speed and power WOW 9.6 Matador El Gato – Because I wont ever own a “Da Cat” 9.0 Hatteras Glass custom – good HP board for powerful surf 8.0 Austin Bandit – my step up, This board needs at least waste high with power to work, and chest high mush.
Although made in America, most Channel Island boards are mass-produced in a factory. I think they are great boards but I wouldnt buy one, especially a longboard. But if someone can tear it up and is cool to people in the water I dont care if they ride a flippin BIC. http://www.surfingmagazine.com/news...ands-surfboards-new-factory-042108/index.html
Hmmmm. OK, I hear ya, and Bbreak, too. I bot the CI several years ago from Whalebone in NC 2 days after Clark Foam locked the gates. It's a Clark blank, I don't think it's shaped in Asia or a factory, but who the hell knows these days. All I know is that I have caught some great waves with it, incl several memorable rides in Hawaii off Diamond Head that have always remained in my mind. Ya know, those rides that keep you coming back for more...
yes,put it this way... i would not buy a donald takayama 6'2" thruster, and i wouldn't buy anything but that from al merrick
Nice collection let me know how you like The Device been toying with getting one and would like some feedback
Austin So, several guys here have boards shaped by Austin Saunders. Austin's a cool guy, good man. I've enjoyed hanging around his shaping & store locations, talking boards & stuff. I've been debating getting one of Austin's boards. The big fella knows how to make boards for guys who don't look like jockeys. Someone posted / mentioned Austin's Soulglide model. Someone else has another of Austin's shapes. Are his boards great wave catchers? Or what do you find very appealing about his shapes? I really would like to know. Next purchase is coming up. I'd like to keep my dinero with local shapers, but only if the stick rocks.
i just started using a longboard this season. Its like cheating, and I love it !!! I already have 2 longboards. Local Motion Ricky Carrol EPS (shaped) 9'0 HP w/ 2+1 setup Al Merrick Channel Islands 9'2 2+1 Poly The local motion absolutley rocks. Turning is much better thatn the Merrick becuase its so light.
Wow you guys have a nice collection. i been googling alot latly to find boards and reviews ect but its super hard bc if u like the board, wont mean i will like the board. I see alot of people on the waves now has epoxy boards. what is your take on them?
