Things to be thankful for

My old roommate, who was a female, dated a cop back in college. He pretty much made her cry everynight and I'm pretty sure he roughed her up a couple of times too. Not all cops are bad, but there's some truth to the stereotype of why they chose to become cops.

This reminds me never to piss off some cop around these parts though. Guilty or not, it's not worth the time/hassle

 

okay where to start. first off jersey has a big property tax crisis blah blah blah. i doubt all the money goes straight to the teachers, cops, town workers, schools, dpw etc. the state is so corrupt you would die. just saying i think we should fix it before we give everyone raises in the towns. i mean i know people who haven't gotten any raises whatsoever since 07. i only brought up damook owning a house because if you own you know what the taxes are like. i was a bit of a ****, and i have no problems with him or anyone, and all that, but this isn't a political discussion so i apologize for turning it into one. the reason the teachers came up was the raises they give to cops as well as teachers, and sorry it has sidetracked the thread.


i do wanna say though since it relates to police that the average pay in 2009 in bergen county new jersey was $88000 i believe for a town officer in bergen county municipalities, and the average pay in passaic county towns was $103000 i am pretty sure. it's a little bit lower down in the shore towns of course. that is just the median pay. you might know officers only making $65000 or even $50000 who have been on the force for years i don't know. it would seem they are paid more than teachers though. i know a county sergeant he works in a county jail he makes about $105000 a year now. he's been on the force for over 20 years though. my buddy's grandfather was a detective, and maybe a captain and made $120000+ before he retired. he gets a fat pension every month. now he was a cop for over 45 years. remember though $80000 a year in jersey north jersey particularly is like $60000 a year in an area where the cost of living is about the national average. and from what i understand cops in most states don't make much more than $60000. so yes jersey does have some of the highest paid police. a lot of states though do have too many UNDERPAID cops.


anyway yes i agree we need cops. i'm not anarchist. i think we need some kind of authority. the world isn't perfect enough for everyone to live in peace, and harmony, and love that we can resolve issues ourselves, and have no authority. unfortunately with that said the world is not perfect enough either to have EVERY cop do their job the way they should, and be fair, and work with the law, and not ABOVE the law. my buddy who has the grandfather who was a cop told me one time when we talked about how dirty the business really is. not just the departments, and all that goes along with the politics of it, but the individual policemen. he told me a story once of how he was patrolling with another guy, and they pulled someone over in a routine traffic stop. his partner took out a a bag of weed, and was about to plant it on the man they pulled over. he warned him several times not to do it, and when he wouldn't comply he had to actually take this officer in his own partner. he had to cuff him, and pull his gun on him, and take him in himself. he said because of his rebellious nature as a cop he changed departments many times, because of the corruption he found in the forces. he said he had many cops who he worked with threaten his life for years. eventually he became a detective like those guys who drive around in unmarked cars, and wear the suit, and tie, and he was put on big time cases.



now the original poster i am not saying i don't believe him, because i don't know him. whether he is exaggerating the story or not i am sure this exact situation has happened more than once. in fact it happens everyday somewhere in america, and without a doubt all over the world.

 

this sums it up good. when i was 20 i dated a girl, and fell in love with her, blah blah blah blah blah blah. she left me to go be with some other guy she had dated years before, and i got all pissed, and he would answer her phone when i called. i had a hard time getting over her, but he would answer, and we would bicker, and he would threaten me over, and over again physically like a real telephone tough guy. he said he would be looking for me, and i was gonna get my ass kicked just stupid stuff like that. needless to say whenever i saw him after, and he was not with a group of guys he acted like he didn't know me, and of course big surprise i mean he was a telephone tough guy. what did i expect? when i confronted him when he was by himself he gave me the run around, and then after that drove away, and yelled some **** out his car about how next time he sees me i was getting my ass kicked or something. it was funny cause he had his chance right there! i found out only months later he was taking tests to become a cop. eventually i heard he couldn't afford the police academy so he wasn't pursuing it anymore. haven't heard from him nor seen him in over 18 years so i don't know what became of him. all i could think was this guy is gonna be a cop? this is the gonna cop that would beat the **** out of some homeless dude with the back of his gun.


if i think back i am sure i can think of even more effed up situations of the people i knew who were cops, or trying to become cops did in their personal outside lives whether it was taking hard drugs, buying prostitutes, beating up, and raping girls, etc. those kinds of people are doomed from the start. other guys are good people trying to make a living, and take care of their family, and generally trying to keep things in order, and scum off the street rather than trying to keep a bunch of kids from skateboarding and other petty stuff, and causing trouble by kicking someones head in any chance they get, and claiming the person was ''resisting arrest''. so yeah i am sure there are cops i would get along with regardless, and then some cops i would get along with as long as they are out of uniform, and then ones i wouldn't get along with or want to get along with at all.

 

What I agreet 100% that surfing is a Life style and a passion but other ppl have passions. I used video games as a example . But what is gonna happen from you ranting on here about is???? Can the cop that screwd you over see it know so in away its kinda cowardly in one aspect.

As for there being no footage I still dont belive it . Only thing I can tell you is there down loaded it and it was "lost" or the Camera was damaged. Since you said the cop in court changed his story in what the discription of the car looked like you can totally use the courts manifesto for case that day and sue the township , Department, and eventually him aswell.

Gaps I am pointing out are you said your GF testified and that you know who did it . Did you tell the police who did it?? I know if I was going to jail for something I had nothing to do with I would sing like a bird. Also is what about body damage to both cars??? if you hit his car with you car there would be body damage to both cars and there would be paint transfer from each vehical.

LIke is said I dont knwio you and you dotn know me . I hope you get what "justice " you are looking for . But hope your experience dont tarnish you out look on the police cause there are alot of honest cops out there still

 

Well, a few weeks ago my friends buddy sued law enforcement in MD for harassing him. He won a lot of money. It was all on tape, though. Of course the individual officer won't get sued but Internal Affairs will be on his ass if you win the case. So if you feel SO strongly about corrupt law enforcement you'll get off this thread and do your damn near hardest to prove that law enforcement made a mistake.

I just don't see how this whole thread has anything to do with Surfing, so Waldo Rem was in jail for 3 weeks and couldn't surf I'm sure some of us had to work, attend school or what ever but we're not falsly accusing others for keeping us away from the water. If he was arrested for surfing then the thread has value.

I'm sorry this horrible event happened to Waldo Rem and when you consider 3 weeks in jail and $250,000 bail the charges would seem to be felonies and not misdemeanors not allowing personal recognizance. If the Civil Liberties Union has a forum maybe this thread would be more appropriate there.

So, when they released you after three weeks, they still were under the impression that you were guilty? Sounds like it since you had to pay Bond.

I mean, false arrests are terrible, but dude, if you fit a description of someone, and your car looks exactly like the perpatrator, and you are sitting on a curb in front of a Wawa, it is understandable that the cops id you...

But in the mean time, unless you were alone at home, you have an aliby in court. They have to PROVE that you did something.

People get arrest in Maryland ALL THE TIME and are falsly accused. Think about every description of a crime in Baltimore. African American Male, around 6 feet tall, short hair, long white tee shirt and timberland boots. I mean, people get arrested everyday for standing on the wrong corner, looking like someone, but in the end, their innocence is proven...

Now, Im no lawyer, but you should eventually pervail in court, at which point your Lawyer will do what he can to get some sort of compensation, along with a public appolgy etc.

But if you live in this coutry, you gotta follow the system. A lot of us feel like victims. I have had issues when I was young as well. I have been harrassed by cops plenty in my life, but usually, I fit a description of a sketchy person, in a sketchy place... so i kinda had it coming.

I dont stand on corners anymore. I dont live in east baltimore anymore. I dont where timbs and white tee shirts and cut my hair like a rapper.... So, I dont get arrested... It comes with age bro.


Everyone on this forum was pulled over 100 times when we were 16-25... WE ALL LOOKED GUILTY...

We have all had our cars search (illegally)... We have all had to take breathalizers when we had ZERO to drink.... But young people stand out to cops...

Sorry to hear about your story... But its america...

People have been put to death, falsly accused, only to be vindicated after they died...

Its a shame... But on the other hand, think about how many murders, and scumbags never get caught... Its a trade off.

And he said his GF testified that it wasnt him who hit the cop. And He said he knew who did it . Did he tell the cops who did??? What a bought damage between his car and the cops , the damage on each car should match. Just seems like that are a few loose strings in the case agianst him

I hope it all works out for the best . But really this is no place for it even though it took away from his surfing. Its no different that a person who works a 40 plus job a week and cant afford to take off to surf . What that guy gonna do ***** to his boss he missed waves . Yeah you were force to stay in jail but todays economics force a person to work 40plus to make a decent living
