So, my residence is now Tinton Falls, NJ since the beginning of November. I got in one really good session my first week here, and then dislocated my shoulder a couple days later. So, I'm sidelined for a while, as I rehab the shoulder Definitely a little different vibe here as compared to Delaware, but its been pretty cool so far. around I'm looking forward to meeting some people out in the water after the shoulder heals.
The couple times I have been to Del I have alway had the feeling that the state was behind the reset of the others ( I have only been to Wilmington , Dover , And Lewis) Seems like there is nothing around or that could just be differnt suroundings vibe you get when you are someplace new for the first time. Glad you are digging NJ and hope ya heal up and get back out in the water soon
NJ is a great place, hope you'll like it. not exactly sure where tilton falls is, but have fun once you heal up
Stop by Brookdale the next time the shaping class runs... it would be great to meet the man behind the scene.
Hey Bro! Welcome to Jersey! Hope you like it here- its really a different vibe- sometimes good... sometimes not so good! But the good thing is that there is a wide varity of breaks here- you just gotta find the right sand bar/ jetty set up! From the few times I surfed in DE- I believe the waves are alot more consistant and better here! Hope you get back in the water soon!
you should make it a priority to check out redbank if you haven't already. many good restaurants and bars, shops and generally a good place to spend a nice afternoon. hartshorne park in atlantic highlands has some great hikes and views of the ocean and shrewsbury/navesink rivers.
Hey Micah, Welcome to the Garden State. There's a really good, albeit, expensive, Italian place called Portofino Ristorante in T Falls. It is family owned and it's located on Tinton Ave. It has some of the best Italian food I've had, including some top NYC places. Save it for a special occasion, as like I said, it's pricey. Hope your shoulder rehab goes well. Also, there's a nice easy bike trail through Sandy Hook. Park in the first lot and it's like 12 miles round trip. Hope to see you out there soon. P.S. You need to change your location in your profile to NJ
Thanks for the welcome fellas! I've surfed NJ a fair amount in the past, but I haven't done a tremendous amount of exploration - so I'm looking forward to uncovering some secrets. It is definitely a faster pace up here, which is logical due to new york influence. Yesterday, I went west of the parkway, up 34N, and it was all farmland and it looked like some cool park areas. So, I was stoked to find the parks. I was talking with someone up north a bit, and he was telling me about some really good mountain biking - I am thinking I might have to get into that up here. I tried it in Delaware once, and it was a blast and an awesome workout. If anyone else has any goto restaurants/bars/etc, let me know! Where I am in Tinton Falls, it seems like there is something around every corner.
I grew up the next town over in CN. Door brook park is very close to you, they have some nice basketball courts and a roller hockey rink (I believe). Delicious Orchards is a must (rt 34)! stay away this week though, they have lines out the door from people picking up pies for thanksgiving. Collingswood flea market is awesome if you are looking for completely random stuff (take 34 south, its before the circle.) Bruce Springsteen has a farm on the corner of Muhlenbrink & Laird roads in colts neck Best way to the beach is 34 south to belmar BLVD or 18 south to the last exit.
hartshorne, my friend.. and the amt of restaurants in there area are overwhelming. yelp.com is a good tool to find some.
hartshorne is very big and has a couple different entrances. i'd strongly suggest the rocky point entrance. it's much more secluded and in my opinion better for hiking. it's basically the corner of land at the intersection of the shrewbury and navesink rivers. from a few spots you can see both rivers and the ocean. you can string together a very long and strenuous hike if you'd like. i've been going there for years and know the place like the back of my hand. the mtn bike trails are top notch as well. when the weather warms, i'd also suggest kayaking around the navesink. it's really nice, especially up and down teh coast of hartshorne.
Hartshorne and Cheesequake are both fun spots to mountain bike. The bike trail on Sandy Hook is nice, but more of a road ride.
nice! I am definitely going to looking into getting a mtn bike. There are just too many nice, and flat days.
Allaire = good mountain biking as well. Hartshorne is the shiz though. Great single track with many switchbacks. Some smooth speedy sections mixed with sketchy techincal sections! So much fun!!
