having traveled semi-extensively & lived away from nj, i will say only this: there is no place i would rather be during the fall than home in jersey. there's nothing like it. it's indescribable. i'm sure other states have some charm, esp. to those who live there, but everything pales in comparison to jersey as a home for me. yea, the surf may not be all that consistent (or even as good as some other places), the water's cold most of the year & you're wrapped in more rubber than a fetishist. the people that visit in the summer are (as a whole) rude, inconsiderate, & self-centered, & it's more expensive to live here than anywhere else, but the fall surf season in nj is worth waiting for. there's nothing like it at all. the crowds thin out, it's just you & your friends again. the average surf height goes from knee high to chest or head high, & you can find solo sessions again if you look for them. the neglected hp shortie becomes your friend again, while you strip the dirty, sand encrusted wax off the log you rode all summer & fix it's dings. yea, jersey isn't perfect. but it's home & i wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Most videos of Jordy surfing south africa are basically him airing the SH!T out of the closeout section that would ruin most surfers sessions. I hear good things about false bay, found it while researching false cape st park. Enjoy!
If you have traveled extensively then you know that Americans (as a whole) are "rude, inconsiderate, & self centered", its not just limited to people that visit NJ in the summer. That why I put Canadian flag patches on my backpacks and luggage and keep the US passport well out of sight. I have countless stories, especially when traveling in Europe, of examples of rude Americans. NJ is a special place. I have found memories of my grand mothers home in Avalon. But Avalon was a different place then, not much is left of the old Avalon. I am not bitter, I just have no desire to spend time there anymore. I surf mostly the ventnor/margate area, that area has a more family, small town feel.
Kind of weird to start a thread boasting how your state is better then anyone elses. Coming from Delmarva, there is some really good waves to be had. I would never say that that New Jersey is better then Delaware nor would I say that Delaware is better then New Jersey. Every dog has their day, and I guess it depends on what type of waves you like and if you know where to look.
Micah just got here but Jersey will win him over shortly. Soon he will be starting threads like this on his forum...
i'm basically staying 10 min from false bay. one of the most scenic places i've ever been in my life. a few spots have surf, but it's been mostly waist high max and onshore. seems like winter is the time to be here and it's summer now. unfortunately jbay is like 8 hrs from here, so that's likely not going to happen. some decent waves closer to cape town that i found. what's crazy is seal island is visible from the water, which is a little scary..
which is it now a ****h@#d or a**hole. i am too old to care what people think about me. and i wasn't aware of the requirement to be proud of where you come from? to be honest, don't answer. i am just bored at work. otherwise i would be doing something more productive with my time.
I have a passport and I'm proud it says USA. I'll be looking for you and your Taliban attitude around the Mar/Ven piers, so I can deliver a little INSTANT KARMA for all the men who have lost their lives fighting for the country you sh#t on. You shouldn't be too hard the find, the only terrorist with a silly Canadian flag backpack, then again you are the coward who hides his passport so you'll probably hide that too now.
sorry. your understanding of foreign policy has convinced me that i am wrong. i will change that patch and i am a proud american. thanks. and i love NJ.
Im going to france next year with the wife, and I plan on buying about 7 Geroge W. Bush tee-shirts and rocking them proudly throughout the entire country. I don't give a fu** what they think of it. Please, please please start a political debate with me... My brother almost got killed in the Moscow airport for wearing an Obama shirt last year. He was surrounded by like 10 huge guys, in business suits, and they all yelled racial slurs at him... "N word lover".... Your country is a disgrace... They even stole their luggage. My bro was rocking to most ridiculous outfits that whole week... Boxer shorts in Moscow, are ACTUAL boxing trunks... He kept all the clothes he bought. It is hilarious! Ever since he told me that story, I can't wait to step on foreign soil wrapped in an american flag.
of course. but i fail to see how that's at all relevant to what i was talking about. & i too think that its kinda messed up that you go so far as to deny your citizenship when abroad. i will admit to apologizing for the actions of my country & it's government when conversing w/ people from other countries, but i have never denied my country of origin. hell, just from lifeguarding in wildwood crest for a few summers i have countless stories of rude french canadians. but that's not relevant to the topic. which is new jersey.
i'll tell you what i love about nj: the easy-off, easy-on service areas on the nj turnpike. seriously. you can pull off, get your gas (i'd rather pump my own, but the guys that do it for me seem like they need the job so what the heck), take a leak, grab a bite or a coffee and jump right back on again. no messing around. it's awesome. don't know about the rest of nj, but the service areas definitely rock (especially compared to i-95 in virginia).
okay, my apologies to anyone who was offended. NJ is sweet. the beaches, the cranberries, tomatoes, the proximity to major cities it is all good stuff. america is great too. i have enjoyed most of my time here. but, do not take my advice. i am not intelligent, just wealthy. take the advice of the other guy who wears GW Bush shirts to France.
yeah, F*CK that, here it comes.... Everywhere I go I am proudly leetheamerican. Be respectful, command respect, and prove them wrong. You would have been killed for that sh!t 200 years ago. Its people like you who are responsible for the pussification of america. Go to canada, and take all of your friends with you. THE STUD
