Is it just me or did 2010 pretty much suck? Seemed like one long flat spell followed by straight East close-outs of various sizes. I think I spent more time driving up and down the coast searching for a rideable wave than I did actual surfing.. Maybe it was just that I had so much more time on my hands this year having been laid off so many times. Just seems like the theme for this year for me was "If Only"...( the tide was reversed/ it was a foot bigger/ it was a little more off-shore/ less deep /more deep..etc..) Hope it was just me and all the rest of you had a killer year. Have a Merry.
I have thought about this too, but I keep telling myself it could have been a lot worse. The only thing that makes me iffy about the year is that the crowds just seem to keep growing...
not your imagination - '10 was below average in # of surfable days as well as # of "Good" days i.e. 4 ft + see above - less days means more people doing what they have to to get on it when it did go off
if you get up early there is no crowds... on the good days tried to to dawn patrol as much as posible and was able to snag great waves before any crowds
Thanx Dave, oddly enough that makes me feel better. I had a feeling this year was less than stellar/ nice to have it backed up by the facts. Everybody calls me a pessimist but I'm not; I'm a realist. After days and weeks and months of praying and searching and hoping and begging for a simple, clean, rideable right at my local break and being consistantly disappointed it gets to you. Hoping for better things to come in 2011...."If Only"
I would say it was an average year. It started off really slow, with that huge drought in January. Then there were a few good days from late January to March, with March ending with a huge swell. I don't remember how April went but I remember having some good swells in May. The summer is the summer, but definitely wasn't a bad one. There were possibly 4-5 chest+ days from June to August. And then there were hurricane swells from Colin, Danielle, Earl, and Igor. I got solid swell from each storm, except Earl which I wasn't home for. Danielle is the debateable one because it was closing out a lot, but the first day I surfed it was a lot better. I can't say much for the rest of the year because I'm in college so I haven't been able to surf the late fall but otherwise the rest of the year was decent imo
Agreed,This year really was not that good. The fall never even played out.Seemed like everyday was a hard west wind.Hopefully 2011 can make up for it.
