I am looking to go on a boat trip somewhere south of the maryland line in Va somewhere. ive heard some rumors but havent seen any documentation of swell hitting fishermen's island and creating a sweet point break style wave. i was looking for any information that anyone had as to who to talk to about getting a charter out to the island. i would park somewhere around the area but it said on surfline that it is a felony to even walk on the beach because it is a wildlife preserve. any thoughts on that would be much obliged.

go to wrv. fishermans island or one of the 50 shoals out there is bound to have a really good wave but it is soooo much of a hassle getting there, its just kinda more work than fun for like an every swell thing. but i guess if your up for some adventure it should be fun

here is the deal with fishermans island.. all u gotta do park your car past the island.. there is a parking lot right there.. and paddle a half a mile then run all the way till your between the two bridges.. thats where the wave is.. its soooo sick too.. it just reels, and its best on the incoming tide.. duh.. but to be honest its not really gonna be good there any time during this swell, it takes a huuuuuuuge massive ESE swell to break.. if u want a world class point break in the bay though all u gotta do is go to the hovercraft ramp at fort story.. kirra like pointbreak right after hurricanes with south winds being offshore,, and u can see that there is a cloudbreak like a mile out there that has to be just massive.. oh ya and ps next time i make that paddle im gonna do it on a longboard with my shortboard tied behind.. its the paddle from hell.. but well worth it, and the wave is to sick to ride a log

so let me get this straight....your talking about the parking lot just to the north of fishermens island on the mainland? I can kind of make out the shoaling just to the northwest of fishermen's island is that where the break is? looking at the way it lines up from the ESE swell it looks liek a pretty sick spot when the conditions come together. I didnt really think it would go off on this swell due to its mostly northerly direction. Is the break at FI on the inside of the bridge tunnel and is a staight north wind offshore for that spot? so there is no need for a boat charter to get to this spot?

hahaha.. ya secrets out.. you dont need a boat to surf here, but it does take a lot of work. That paddle across from the parking lot to fishermans island is just about the scariest thing ever, and it looks far and it feels even farther, its about 20 min easily. But ya, the break is inbetween the bridges, or at lest thats where i surfed it. google earth that **** and check it for yourself.. and then look at the inlet at hog island, cause thats where the serious untapped potential lay

got any plans to head there anytime thats definetly a boat trip and i bet that spot works on a much smaller wave then you need for the FI point.... i can see how the north end of hog island could go off. im looking on google earth and the FI spot you talking about looks as though its real hard to get any swell that far around the bay side opf that island.. it sounds like a definate future adventure i would love to partake in...

supposidly the south end of hog island has an insane left barrel, that peels in right there next to rouge island, i have heard of that place looking like mundaka on crack, and its right there next to the channel, that inlet actually is the channel, so it obviously gets deep ouside the break and then just pitches on the shallow shoal, you can just tell it is so sick, and i bet it doesnt even take that much swell, I am down for sure to hit up that spot one day, it really wouldnt even be that hard

If you can't get a boat, a cheap alternative, a kayak with an anchor(you can't park it on the beach), you can even put enough stuff on their to make overnight trip to those outer island down their. don't go without GPS and lots of bug spray(when its warm) spent some time in VA, Chincoteague Area, heard crazy stories of wierd stuff going on on those uninhabited islands down their.

i think you would be out of your mind to kayak to some of these islands. I took a trip out to wachapregue to surf. And I did it on a hurricane swell where the rest of OC was getting 6FT + groundswell.

It took about 15-20 minute boat ride with outboard motor. Went through the wach. inlet to explore the outer shoal. This shoal you would think would have potential. If you look from the island its about 1/4 of a mile out and all you see is this big sandy stretch usually with boats anchored on the backside and people walking over and fishing. its pretty amazing but there wasn't even more than a 2 foot wave.

the same thing could be said for the island itself. it wasn't breaking. saw a couple houses with surf boards but that was about it. honestly i think its hit or miss down there. who knows. those islands have the feel of assateague style wave so I really think its hit or miss. I checked it on the perfect swell, offshore winds, SE groundswell at 6foot OC. ended up missing a good day of waves where I could have been at bethany. Not worth it to me anymore.

thank you for the kayak idea... not for hog island, but for fishermans, you could make the paddle in 10 min and not feel like shark bait... and as for a boat, yes i have one, hahha and a captin that will go anywhere as long as we are stocked with beer and food. If you ever see a good oppourtunity to go u should post it up on here a few days before hand, cause all its really gonna take is motivation here on my part. im down though, oh ya and i heard fishermans is breaking right now, hahaha grab that kayak!!!

3 times ive seen fisherman's island absolutely FIRING when driving across the bridge. like un****ingbelievable good WTF car accident good. once was breaking right between the bridges, the other 2 times was just east of the northbound lane.

I never wanted to deal with getting arrested so i never did made the journey, but alot of my family lives in vah beach and my cousin just got a badass boat, so i think i can convince him to go sample it a cpl times.

sick to know you guys have caught it good!!

dude, ill tell u what, wes laine is not the guy to talk to. He is the owner of WRV, and honestly if you asked him about how to get to fishermans island he would look at you and laugh. But seriously folks, i just told u everything u need to know about fishermans island, even how to get there without a boat, now if thats not all the information you need, i dont know what is. im sure wes never even knew that one, cause i know for a fact he puts his boat on a trailer and drives it to the eastern shore and then puts it out in a marina up there. Thats one way of doing it, but really, i prefer my way more
