Looks like I am going to be visiting family in Japan for about 2 weeks sometime in 2011. (We haven't decided what time of year yet) If possible I would like to get in the water while I am over there. Has anyone on here been surfing over there? Or, does anyone know where I could get some info on surfing in Japan? I searched this forum and the global surf talk forum and nothing came up. Thnx.
http://www.surfline.com/surfline/reports/reportMap_custom.cfm?id=4705 if that's not enough, there's this thing on the world wide intraweb called "The Google." I hear it works pretty well when trying to ascertain non-proprietary information...
Thanks D-bag. It's called going to a forum on surfing where i can get some people to share personal experience. I already checked global surfer and wanted more info.
Well clearly you have not tried this new fantastic tool i mentioned before, "The Google." Because if you had gone to "The Google" and typed in "Japan Surf" you would have found at the top of the page a website called "www.japansurf.com." (that funny little line of "code" starting with "www" is called a "URL.") Let us investigate further. Just next to the web address is a description of the website. "Everything you need to know about surfing in Japan." Ok, now that sounds useful. Now let's go even further. Try moving your mouse over the "hyperlink" and left clicking. What do you know, a nice pretty website. Now, you said you were looking for personal experiences. You figured that the best place to find these personal experiences on Japan surfing was a midatlantic United States Surfing message board. Unfortunately, you were mistaken. Because on this "Japansurf.com" there is a "Messageboard" all it's own, with people recounting their personal experiences of surfing in Japan. You might have to "Search" the "Archive" for exactly what you are looking for, but now that you have followed these neat little instructions, you probably know how to use the "Intraweb" so you should be able to figure it out. Always happy to help!!!
No need to be a complete @$$ hole he is just trying to get a little insight on a forum made for surfing bro
Seriously isn't that the whole point of a forum? I mean **** not everyones brains are hardwired into google haha
There is a ton of surf in Japan. Very uncharted for the most part. A pro that rides for plus one that I surf with who lives in OB (Kalani Kalama) did a documentary on Fuel about his surf trip to Japan. He was surfing HUGE DOH points and reefs. Alone. He said it was erie to see so many waves with no one out. It breaks just like CA from what he said. He came back super stoked though. The episode airs like twice a month still on Fuel. Its just 30 minutes of him ripping and doing charity work with kids.
do you have any idea where in Japan your staying? it sort of makes a difference on the information your trying to ascertain.
You've done it again Zach, I am now even more impressed. I am convinced there isn't a person you dont know...you have taken 6 degrees of seperation and chopped in half. You may actually be able to help me out, theres this guy Jesus I've been lookin for.. next time your cousins roomates brother surfs w/ him, tell him I've got some questions. Santos.. thanx for the laugh, keep pulling cards.
hey santos no reason to be a ****. this isn't the elementary school playground. that is why the forum is here. i really don't know much about japan surfing, but it would make sense that surfing goes on there. it's not really a place i hear about synonymous with surfing, but i'm sure you can have fun there in the surf. this may or may not be a better tool than google but www.wannasurf.com is worth checking out. just go to japan or i think they have it by continent so you would go to asia first, and japan from there. i used it to check out some breaks on the north shore of oahu when i was spending the week in diamond head. surfline break info was already linked too in this thread wasn't it? surfline doesn't have the best forecasts at least not on the east coast, not very accurate. they do have some great travel info in there though.
Wow thanks! I guess when your biggest responsibility is walking upstairs from your parents basement to be ontime for dinner you can put that much energy into mocking someone. I'll take a look at the site and find some spots in the Tohoku region.
wow guys. You took this one to heart. I felt like that comment directly pertained to this post. He is the only dude I have ever met who did a surf tour of freaking japan.... gosh. Man, i am just in between sessions at pipeline, I am surprised I found time to even read this! Luckily there is wifi in the Volcom House.
your good peeps zack. i have to say iv learnt alot from your 3 page posts on every thread- seriously you write too much but you have alot of knowledge to spread... keep it up!
