Has anyone tried surfing on the island between little egg harbor inlet and brigantine inlet? Looks like you could paddle from brig over ... I haven't taken my boat over there to check it cause whenever its big I don't like taking my whaler in the ocean. Seems to have some potential. Anyone seen it on a swell?
Little Beach I live in brig and go hunt around the island few times this summer. Surfed there once. No way can you paddle there unless at like slack tide the current runs way to quick in and out of wreck inlet really dangerous... just looking out for ya. but other than that not giving out to much detail about the spot.
Yea I would never consider paddling... guess ill have to give it a look myself once I get the boat back in the water
Shoals run out along the inlet pretty far out which destroy waves. But hey, any given day with the right swell who knows. Plus, its very sketchy to run a boat through there since its a natural inlet. I've seen it done, but its called wreck inlet by locals for a reason.
yea you dont wanna run up and down wreck inlet unless you know what your doing there are sandbars all the way through there. and there is only one little pass around the shouls to get to the beach front at little beach. good thing we did all this exploring on my friends little 14 ft skiff on a small day. We did make it but was really sketchy deff dont wanna go on a big day we are planning on doing a few trips this summer tho change it up tired of crowds and kooks
Never been there myself, but I lived on Brig for a year, and from what I heard, it's good kiting, but not a great surf spot. The currents in and around the inlet are bad, and the sand is constantly shifting. Even the guys who fish the area regularly say go slow, rely on your depth finder only, and mark bars on your chart for reference. But the place is very shifty and where there's water one hour, there's sand the next.
yea inlet changes every year its crazy how much the sand shifts, and that is how the waves are shifty..
Pretty much everyone nailed it. I fish that inlet and back bays, and can say, I doubt any waves will make it to that island. Those shoals are directly in front of it and no swell would get in. Last December, I was trying to fish right in there, but waves were breaking everywhere.
The island is really cool to explore even though you arent aloud on it. There is still a littel cabin left there that one family has the right to. Tons of washed up stuff the beach is weird there is like sod banks a little, waves break everywhere due to different water depths. and i bet you can find a lot of tressures on that island. My dad grew up in brigantine and back in the day there were roads and like 20 houses/ cabins on little beach. Basically a old huntin fishing party island. My dad made like an undergroud like tunnel/bunker in the side of one dune but it has since washed away.
